Funny, I remember enjoying it at the time (I love Jane Seymour in just about anything she does, and Reeve was good too) but I haven't caught it coming on TV more than once that I remember since it came out..Big RR wrote:And I'll bet Jim is right--that was one of my wife's favorite films (and one of the few non-Superman films I could stand Christopher Reeve in) so I saw it many times.

Re: Name That Movie!
You need the DVD; it goes back far enough I have it on laser disc as well. I do recall it on one of the premium channels (HBO I think) shortly after it came out, but I tend t avoid films on commercial TV due to the tendnency to edit them for time, as well as other reasons.
Re: Name That Movie!
Another one of my all-time favorite movies, I have seen it several dozen times and at one point owned the VHS - a gift from my mom. I knew the clue but didn't login in time.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Re: Name That Movie!
Since a whole bunch of people have verified that my answer is correct, if oldr pulls another Houdini and doesn't show up to verify it by some time this afternoon, I'm going to go ahead and post a new one...

Re: Name That Movie!
Nitpicker's query: I know that this is a commonly used phrase to indicate someone who just leaves a social setting, but does it make any sense? It refers to Houdini's "disappearing" elephant trick, but the elephant actually never left, it was still there. Further, Houdini spent far more time and was much more famous for his escapes. So shouldn't a "Houdini" actually be an improbable escape from a difficult situation?Lord Jim wrote: if oldr pulls another Houdini and doesn't show up
Re: Name That Movie!
Okay, I see oldr has been by without posting in this thread, so I'm going to take that as implied verification...
The movie starred a very well known actor and and co-starred several others most people here are probably familiar with...For Christ's sake! What is this, some half-assed Princeton debating society? We are in a war situation!

Re: Name That Movie!
Okay, time for another quote:
As you can probably tell from that quote, it's a sci-fi movie...I believe what we stumbled across is not man-made but a phenomena of nature, one that can't be explained.

Name That Movie!
Ah, got it:

Re: Name That Movie!

Okay, this should be a giveaway clue (for anyone who's seen it) when combined with the other quotes and clues...
Like a couple of other recent movies we've had, this flick also has a time travel theme...

Re: Name That Movie!
Hot tub time machine
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

That's actually one movie with a time travel theme that I have avoided watching...(no interest in the sequel either...)
Here's the first quote again:

Re: Name That Movie!
Sounds like a line Jack Nicholson would deliver, so I'll venture Mars Attacks.
Re: Name That Movie!
That would be a no...
The movie is older than that, (80s) and it's not a comedy...
