Obviously a masterful, yet vague clue. You can't fool me. I got this one.Lord Jim wrote:Or maybe another quote and some other sort of clue...Econoline wrote:Maybe another quote? or some other sort of clue?

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Name That Movie!
OK, 'nother hint.
In 60 some years of being some cat or other's servant, it is the only movie (or TV show for that matter) that ever got a rise out of one of my cats. LBC jumped up on the entertainment center to the narrow space in front of the TV to get a good close look at the picture. If the scene had not changed, confusing her, I'm not sure what she might have done.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Nope, no, and negative, in that order.

Just a brief interjection: I just watched the remake of The Magnificent Seven and I really, really loved it - even thought it's very sad.
Is the original so much more outstanding, or only because it's old and iconic? I just watched the trailer for it and it looks cheesy and badly acted by comparison.

Well, the original original is Kurosawa's Seven Samurai...but I imagine you already knew that.

I think the 1960 Magnificent Seven has held up as well as any movie from that era, but I am interested in seeing the 2016 remake which has a similarly impressive cast.
eta, but I just saw the trailer on youtube and it was hilariously bad -- but that's the trailer, not the movie.

Re: Name That Movie!
I know I'm supposed to watch old movies - like the Japanese original and first American remake - and be very impressed by the artistic value of films that were ground breaking in their time . . . but I'm becoming spoiled by contemporary cinematography and production values, I suppose.
Although some of the reviews are not positive and a few that are say it wasn't remarkable enough, I found the remake to be very entertaining - very well acted by a great cast, including the always terrific Denzel Washington, great production values, very visually appealing. I recommend it without hesitation.

Re: Name That Movie!
BSG--I agree that many older films were made on shoestring budgets and lack much of the modern production values, but often they make up for this by developing characters and storylines to a much greater degree--Bogie's "Rick" or Ingrid Berman's "Ilsa" are far more iconic and memorable characters than their counterparts in Havana (a rather weak remake, or reimagining depending on what you want to call it). When you approach older films, look at them from this point--I often marvel that they're able to do so much with what little they have available--I still find 30s/40s horror films much more haunting than the special effect extravaganzas we get now, ditto with some of the cheesy 50s/60s sci fi films that boast storylines worthy of the Twilight Zone and not the comic book fare we often get today. Of course, this may not work for you (I have a good friend who has movie tastes pretty aligned with mine (he's the only person I know that I would see a movie solely based on a recommendation from him) who says he cannot watch older movies for the reasons you mentioned), but I'd give it a shot.

LBC was not riled by a fish or mouse, or anything to eat, but by another CAT, which was displayed on the screen just about life sized to her.MGMcAnick wrote:OK, 'nother hint.

I think it might be time for another quote--I know I'm stumped so far.
Re: Name That Movie!
I'm not eligible for this round, but it's not ringing any bells for me either...

I was thinking of some sort of time travel thing like Back to the Future, but I don't recall the line.

Going on six days with this one, with one quote (which doesn't show up on a Google search, btw) and a couple of cryptic and vague clues.

Oh, I found something on Google, but it's a quote from the novelization of a mid 80s movie.Long Run wrote:Going on six days with this one, with one quote (which doesn't show up on a Google search, btw) and a couple of cryptic and vague clues.
