Name That Movie!
Re: Name That Movie!
Stupid or an homage to “war of the worlds”?
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Name That Movie!
Well in fairness, the movie was made in 1996 when the phrase "computer virus" wasn't as commonly known, so maybe the writers felt the need to explain the use of the word "virus"...gave it a cold… I gave it a virus. A computer virus.
Also an homage to the Irwin Allen disaster movies of the 70s...Crackpot wrote:Stupid or an homage to “war of the worlds”?
It's not Casablanca, but I like it and probably re-watch it at least once a year...

You do have free time.Lord Jim wrote: but I like it and probably re-watch it at least once a year...

Re: Name That Movie!
I only saw it once (so my recollection may be off) but as I recall the character saying that had a cold and was sneezing, then said he's like to give their ships a cold (or something like it) and then came up with the idea of a computer virus. It reminded me of a story in National Lampoon about the (Japanese) guy who invented the transistor for use in radios because he heard a conductor tell a nun "hurry or you'll miss the train sister".Well in fairness, the movie was made in 1996 when the phrase "computer virus" wasn't as commonly known, so maybe the writers felt the need to explain the use of the word "virus"...

If you're referring to that quote, I think stupid. If you're referring to the film, Jim may be right about War of the Worlds and the Irwin Allen movies. I liked War of the Worlds, but could have done without those Irwin Allen films or this one.
And Jim, not only is it not Casablanca, it's not that horrible remake/reboot of Casablanca, Havanna. But enjoy it, we all have guilty pleasures.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Holy shit! I thought I was the only person who read that magazine and still remembered crap like that!!Big RR wrote:It reminded me of a story in National Lampoon about the (Japanese) guy who invented the transistor for use in radios because he heard a conductor tell a nun "hurry or you'll miss the train sister".

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: Name That Movie!
bill--stuff like that just sticks with me; and I loved the National Lampoon magazine (I'd be willing to buy a bound set of all the issues if they ever made one)--there are a lot of things like that which I sometimes think of.Holy shit! I thought I was the only person who read that magazine and still remembered crap like that!!
Also, do you (or anyone else here) recall Scanlans Magazine (I think that's the name, but it may have been National Scanlans) published for a short time in the early 70s; I recall it used to skewer Nixon and also had some Lampoon type features. I think it ended with Watergate, but I am not sure.

Okay, since no one else has taken it, I'm going to go ahead and declare this posting of a misspelled version of the correct answer the winner...Big RR wrote:Sure, and also I think the title Jim is looking for can be found IN the movie title Meade cited...IN the movie title---hint, hint.

I've made this decision utilizing the broad and sweeping powers granted to the clue giver in The Secret Rules Of The Plan B Movie Quote Game...
(Please don't bother asking me where you can find a copy of these rules; if I told you that, they wouldn't be much of a secret, would they?)

Making up the rules as you go along; thank you Mr. Trump.

For the quote: it's from a while back but I'd bet most people here have seen it:
I was married for four years, and pretended to be happy; and I had six years of analysis, and pretended to be sane. My husband ran off with his boyfriend, and I had an affair with my analyst, who told me I was the worst lay he'd ever had. I can't tell you how many men have told me what a lousy lay I am. I apparently have a masculine temperament. I arouse quickly, consummate prematurely, and can't wait to get my clothes back on and get out of that bedroom. I seem to be inept at everything except my work. I'm goddamn good at my work

Sounds like something Woody Allen would pen. I've only seen a few of his, so just a WAG for Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex.
