I know who said it and which movie but I'm refusing to answer in protest of his despicable personal character and really, his movies aren't that great, it's all a cult of personality. IMHO.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

That's it; and BSG, his personality and behavior aside, I find may of his films "that great" and better. It is a matter of taste, and I know many who can't stand his films, but to me a number are gems. FWIW, I never really liked the politics or personality of Elia Kazan, but find many of his movies great as well (and think his lifetime achievement Oscar was well deserved despite his nasty business with the HUAC). Indeed, I would venture to guess that I may not like many film directors, but I try to separate them from their work.

I just watched this one this week (it's on the TriBeCa shortlist on Amazon Prime):
