Back to school, Welsh style.

The end of the summer holidays may be a cause for celebration for some beleaguered parents while for stressed out teachers it may be a reason to turn to the bottle.

But either way, the rows of bottles of alcohol on display at a Tesco store in Swansea certainly weren't meant for school children.

Shoppers at the store in Fforestfach were shocked to see vodka, whisky and gin for sale on shelves underneath a giant sign saying 'Back To School'.

I know of several "party school" college towns where that sort of of back-to-school sale would be de rigueur. ;)

Not really sure what Aberfan has to do with this topic?

That is a very painful subject for many people in Wales even today - I personally know families that lost children, and my own father was there on the day and the days that followed helping with the recovery/rescue efforts. It is impossible for me to even drive through the village without looking across at the gravestones and feeling emotional.

RB, I apologise to you and anyone offended.

It seems there is no limit to "humour" that can be dragged into tragedy. Need Another Seven Astronauts... What's black and goes to school in Wales? (the connection to the topic)... What kind of wood doesn't float?... What's Ronald Reagan's favourite vegetable?... and so on. But it's easy to forget that these all refer to real people, all or many of them missed by friends and relatives still today. So, it was perhaps best left unposted when the only intended audience was Gob anyway.

In Allston (Boston), the package stores stock up for back to school: one gets a huge delivery of cheap 30-packs of beer (an entire truckload), cheap vodka, and Captain Morgan rum!
