Let's play war!!

Post by Gob »

A World War Two grenade found in a bag of toys led to the evacuation of a Newport charity shop.

Army bomb disposal experts removed the device from Barnardos in Malpas after police cordoned off the area around it.

The discovery was made in a black bag of children's gifts on Thursday afternoon.

Shop manager Sue Humphreys said it had been in the shop for "several weeks", adding "we didn't panic" after finding it.

She said the pin was still intact and after doing research online, staff realised it was a grenade.

Gwent Police said it was "deemed as low risk and has been safely removed".

They had to do research to recognize a grenade.  liberals?
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Toy v. real - doh! Don't really need to be insulting liberals in such a context, among us are some of the brightest thinkers in the world, a fact whatever your opinion might be.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

They had to go on the internet to tell the difference between a toy grenade and a real one?

(Doesn't say they thought it was a toy - sounds like they had no clue)

Hate to say it, but I think most people who don't have military experience still think that all grenades look like this old WWII pineapple:

So if it was a modern grenade (more rounded, for example, without the distinctive texture to it) they may not recognize it.  And if it had been something like this, they could have easily figured that it was either demilitarized/inert (a dummy), a toy, or a replica that had come from something like this:

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

"A World War II grenade"

British pineapple? German stick? American M12? Soviet? etc. Good point, BB.

There are no "Liberals" in the UK, even in the USA they only exist in the minds of Republicans

That I believe to be true, but is it not mostly in the humanities, medicine and academia? I just don’t believe there are a lot liberal generals or military men in general. Colin Powell might be an exception.

I never said liberals are not smart, but if I were to choose a group of people most likely to lack a knowledge of weapons it would be liberals.
