I Wonder What The Secret Ingredient Is....

I was in the ice cream aisle at the Safeway earlier today, when I saw this:
I began laughing rather boisterously....(and gathering some looks from other shoppers)
Okay,
Cherry Garcia, (one of my favorites) I can see...
But naming an ice cream variety after
Marion Barry?
That seemed like a stretch...

Kristina, a lady who was standing near me when I burst into laughter (and who understood why I found it to be so funny when I explained why I was laughing) told me about the actual provenance that you linked to...
I realize now it's just an unfortunate coincidence, but not having been familiar with the
Marionberry, and being a Washingtonian who well remembers the late crack smoking mayor, seeing it for the first time sitting on the ice cream shelf between the Chocolate Chip and the Rocky Road was hilarious...

Don't be running down our Tillamook ice cream, or the real deal marionberry, which pretty much rules the berry world.

When I was a little kid (many decades ago) we always HAD to tour the Tillamook Cheese Factory while driving north thru Oregon.
I gagged through-out the entire tour.
I am more than certain that the product was first-rate, I just don't like cheese.

A blackberry by any other name.
We have wild blackberries in the woods by the house in Pa. Blueberries too.
I usually pick em and pour some heavy cream on them. MMMMM MMMMMM good.
