One of Ashley Judd's early roles was in Star Trek: The Next Generation, in which she shared her first onscreen kiss with Will Wheaton:

There is some weird editing in of an unrelated computer game into this clip, not sure what they were trying to accomplish.

There are plenty of men in this country - and world - who feel exactly the same as Ashley Judd does about the inequality suffered by their beloved mothers, sisters, lovers, friends & daughters - as well as by friends, family and fellow citizens of color and those who are LGBTQ.

And then there are men who are laughing - and on the wrong side of history.

You're right about the crew from the Enterprise being on the wrong side of history. They're in the future.

Well, I think my bonafides when it comes to loathing Trump are pretty much beyond reproach, but the kind of hysterical over the top ranting Judd goes into in that bit is just plain counter-productive...

Before I watched that, I hadn't seen more than a few second clip of her at the march, but I'd bet you good money that her whole riff was broadcast in it's entirety more than once on FOX News...

I'm sure that Trump would like nothing better than to point to Judd and say "See? That's the kind of person who opposes me."

That kind of scenery chewing performance plays right into the hands of Drumpf and his little minions....

Someone--might as well be me--ought to point out that Judd was reciting a poem written by Nina Donovan, a 19-year-old college student from Franklin, Tennessee. And she credited Donovan at the beginning of her performance.

And speaking of the beginning of her performance, doesn't Ashley Judd get props from anyone here for cutting off Michael Moore in mid-rant?

Why does this matter? Judd was obviously agreeing with the sentiments. Jim is right that these over-the-top rants by celebrities detracted seriously from the effort.

I think it matters because it's always important to credit the author in addition to the performer, and because the words (as opposed to "the sentiments") clearly make more sense when you see them as the words of a 19-year-old college student rather than the words a well-off, successful 48-year-old actress. (IMHO)

And I'll agree that the DC demonstration was probably a bad venue for a piece more suited to a stage at Columbia State Community College, and the widespread media attention it got may well have detracted from the impact of the marches as a whole. But you have to remember that this was just one voice among millions of others.

Judd's (performed) rant probably suited her audience at the time. The problem is the media shows things like that over and over and it gives the impression that all democrats are just like Judd. I can imagine what that Trump licking Hannity's comments were on his show.

I agree with the point that Judd's performance was trying to communicate but I thought it was embarrassing.
