Girl at lemonade stand threatened by a man who said he'd call police for lack of a business license

By Frank Somerville Published 11:27 am, Monday, July 17, 2017

A man threatened to call the police on a girl at her lemonade stand for lack of a business license.

“Whoever the man is who threatened to call the police on my daughter for her lemonade stand, you are seriously pathetic."

"There is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things.

I understand that you were upholding the "law" but really dude?"

This is the story of a little girl from Discovery Bay who set up a lemonade stand on public property.
She just wanted to sell some lemonade and cookies. Her parents told her she could be there for 1 hour.

But as she was setting up she was approached by a man who was all bent out of shape by what she was doing.
(Don’t worry there is a happy ending)

Richard LaRouche is the little girl’s father.

He told me:

"The man just pulled up next to her and asked for her business license and then told her ‘I’m calling the police’ and then got on the phone and began speaking as if he was talking to police."

"She was so scared that she came home crying and sobbing and said she didn’t want to go to jail."

But here’s the happy ending.

Richard says:

"When she came home crying I told her that some people are just negative and are looking to bring others down."

"I told her how much our community supported her when I posted what happened."
"She was so surprised and encouraged."

"We set up a second lemonade stand on our property (on Friday) and she was busy the whole three hours."
"Ran out of cookies and had just enough lemonade for the last two police officers."

---Richard LaRouche

I’d love to hear from the person who threatened to call the police.

I keep wondering why he would do that.
Why it was so important to him.
And whether he regrets doing it now.

Regardless I’m glad that Richard’s daughter got to see how the community came together and rallied around her.
I hope she learned that people care.
Case closed. :ok

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

There are jerks in this world, and this guy is a Class A jerk. if he had a legitimate complaint, which I doubt, he should have let the authorities deal with it; making a little girl cry is just the mark of a bully. And accosting a little girl like that with threats might well be a crime too. I think it would be fun to see him hauled before a judge to explain why it was so important to make a little girl cry.

five-year-old girl who was fined £150 by a council for selling 50p cups of lemonade has received dozens of offers to set up stalls at other events.

Andre Spicer, a business school professor, had let his daughter set up a stall to sell refreshments outside Lovebox Festival, east London.
However, four council officials fined the pair for trading without a licence.
Tower Hamlets Council has since apologised for issuing the fixed penalty notice and cancelled the fine.

Mr Spicer said his daughter had received offers to set up lemonade stands at festivals and at Borough Market in Southwark.
The family tweeted: "We have been overwhelmed by the kind response from people across the world.
"Dozens of festivals, markets and businesses have offered us the opportunity to set up a lemonade stand.

"We hope they will extend this invitation to others who'd love to make a stand."
Borough Market tweeted the girl's father: "In all seriousness, would your daughter like to sell some lemonade at Borough Market? We'd love to make that happen for her."

Mr Spicer told how his daughter had "burst into tears" after enforcement officers "began reading from a big script explaining that she did not have a trading licence".
He said: "My daughter clung to me screaming 'Daddy, Daddy, I've done a bad thing.' She's five.
"We were then issued a fine of £150. We packed up and walked home."

A council spokesman said: "We are very sorry that this has happened. We expect our enforcement officers to show common sense and to use their powers sensibly.
"This clearly did not happen."

Now, I was just an ordinary English man,
Till I got me uniform, and hat,
And ever since that hour,
I exercise me power,
Preventing you from doing this and that.
You’ll find me on the turnstiles at the zoo,
Or outside the Roxy, marshalling the queue,
And if you turn up late,
when I’m on the gate,
It’s no good asking me to let you through … ’cause I’ll just say:

CHORUS:
Jobsworth, josbsworth; it’s more than my job’s worth.
I don’t care, rain or snow, whatever you want – the answer’s no!
I can keep you standing, for hours in the queue,
And if you don’t like, you know what you can do! (A…a…ah…ah)

Yep, the best way to take care of a troublemaker or pest is to give him a whistle and put him in charge of something--all the better if you tell him to enforce something, no matter how trivial or silly.

We used to refer to this as "power surge" when I worked at the Circle-Bar-W, oh-so-many years ago. It was how the company raised many managers to the level of their incompetence.

It has been my lifelong feeling that many police officers are the Jr High and High School bullies that bothered those who couldn't fight back when they were young. Now that they are older, they can push almost anyone around, even five year old kids.

That said, my interactions with the police over the last many years have only been positive.

What about child labor laws (with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek)?
