Those Were The Good Old Days...

Post by Lord Jim »

This riff from Randy is more than a year old, but it holds up well, and man oh man do I know what he's talking about... :?

I think we'll get tickets; he's absolutely hilarious, and I could definitely use a good laugh...

Thanks for tipping me off to what this one was based on. "Damn Yankees" is (almost) before my time.

Randy Rainbow is good with the topical parodies, no doubt about it.  Now if he could just play an instrument and write his own music too, like Tom Lehrer.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Old friend don't you know it's over?
Old friend can't you understand?
Slap your back I can no longer
I can only shake your hand

It's been so long, and things are so different
Memory lane's a dead end street
Your present tense is reminiscing
I can't rehash it, I won't repeat

You're not so sure about tomorrow
You try to beg and steal and borrow
Yesterday's sweet parting sorrow
You hold it over my head like a rusty axe.

The good old days are good and gone now
That's why they are good,because they're gone
But our conversation turns to kowtow
We kiss the past's ass all night long

LJ, did you go to see Randy Rainbow in concert? I was wondering if you enjoyed the show.

I’ve got a chance to see him in P-Town next week, no doubt in the company of many lovely LGBTQ peeps and while the tickets aren’t cheap, I haven’t been to a concert in several years and think it might be a really uplifting experience for me to have.

Just curious how your experience was, if you did go.

Yes we did, and it was funny, but frankly I was a little disappointed...

He had his moments, (and he brought a really excellent band for some live numbers) but I thought that way too much of it was canned and pre-recorded...

Given the ticket prices, I really didn't expect to see so much of the show devoted to running his You-tube videos on a big screen... :?

I bought the ticket and planned my day; I have a therapy appointment in New Bedford earlier in the day and will go from there to P-Town, hit Anthony Bourdain's youthful summer employer The Lobster Pot for some fantastic Portuguese fish sitting right on the water, then maybe up the Pilgrim Monument for the gorgeous view (not sure I can make it) or a stroll around the galleries and such before heading over to Town Hall for the gig.

I did read elsewhere a review same as yours about the canned content, but to be honest I haven’t seen many of his recent videos so it will be new to me and I mostly want to be immersed in a crowd of out and proud Randy Rainbow fans who feel the same way I do about the rise of Trumpism.

My hearing is going but I am not sure that explains why I could not make out one word of this.
