Meade--you may have to explain the obscure joke--I know whales in Spanish are Ballenas, but that is pronounced quite differently from balero/bolero. Can you give a hint at least?

OK, thanks. The Spanish word seems to have the same root, and I recall learining tht some whales did not have teeth but had boney plates called baleens, which functioned as filtering plates for their feeding.
