Lou: That’s our new DH on first. He’s good
Bud: “They’re”
Lou: Yes, there. On first. Him.
Bud: “They”
Lou: Huh?
Bud: They’s on first.
Lou: Oh, yeah, I see them. The other one is their first baseman. He’s fielding
Bud: She, Lou
Lou: Don’t sound so surprised. He’s a fielder
Bud: No, I’m telling you to say “they’re” and “she”
Lou: Look, he’s there, he’s there and they’re both at first
Bud: No, they’s on first and she’s by first
Lou: She’s bi?
Bud: Now you’re getting it
Lou: Look, if their first baseman throws to second, who’s he?
Bud: I prefer not to answer
Lou: What?
Bud: He’s on third
Lou: Who?
Bud: He is
Lou: I asked “who?”
Bud: I know. And I’m telling you Watt’s on third
Lou: Look, who is the guy on second?
Bud: You have to say ‘I prefer not to answer’
Lou: No, I don’t. You said it.
Bud: You can’t say ‘it’.
Lou: Why not?
Bud: It’s rude
Lou: It is?
Bud: They says so and so does she
Lou: Aargh! All I want to know is why you keep saying “they”, “she” and “I prefer not to answer”
Bud: Oh, that’s what they call fielder’s choice.

:ok., Meade.

I'd love to see a good comic team do that routine... SNL, are you listening?

Personally, I find the current American phenomenon of 'preferred pronoun' confusing. But I actually like the idea of they and their as indeterminant number and unspecified gender pronoun.

But meantime, the routine at the top of this thread is nice. It is a gracious appreciation of the original.
