Scooter bargain

A mother was left furious after her son's costly mini scooter was sold by charity shop staff as she browsed inside - for an amazingly low £3.

Unlucky Carine Siebert, 38, had left her son Gael's beloved toy outside the Shaw Trust shop in Thame, Oxfordshire, only to come back and find that the scooter had been sold for a measly sum of £3.

Despite a desperate plea and a search of the town that included placing an advert in the shop's window, the blue £50 John Lewis scooter has yet to be returned to the single mum of three.

Siebert said: 'I have three children, each of them had a scooter, one of which I'd just managed to buy for my little four-year-old.

'His had cost me £50, I'd saved for for a long time to buy it.

'We got to the charity shop and it was quite crowded, so I told the children to leave their stuff outside.'

She browsed for just 15 minutes before leaving the shop, and was stunned to find that in that time the scooter had gone.

'When we came out there was no scooter. I was so shocked, I thought somebody must have stolen it,' she said.

'But I went back inside and I asked about the scooter, the lady looked a bit worried, went as white as a ghost and said to us - ‘oops, I think I've made a mistake'.

'They said they were sorry but there was nothing they could do to help me out.

'I had heard a lady asking about the price of the scooters outside but I didn't realise they were talking about ours.

'I can see the funny side of it - but my little boy is really upset, he loved his little scooter.

'I even told him he couldn't have any toys from the charity shop and then he comes out and he's favourite ever toy has gone. He's devastated.'

Shop staff admitted the error but still made the mother of three pay for the goods she was buying ,a T-shirt and a mug, while the scooter was being sold

Someone in the shop better come up with a quick 50 quid, and that isn't charity, it's what is right.

I can't believe the fuckers made her pay for the items as well. They need to sort it out for her pretty sharpish before they find themselves with no customers.
If I were her I'd be talking to the old bill to see if she could have them charged with theft.

That'd get them moving...

Awwwwww I know how upset Pudd would be if his scooter went AWOL. Thats just awful, whoever sold it needs to stick their hand in their pocket and replace it.

I agree. I can't believe that they haven't rectified their mistake by now already.
