NZ man sets own car on fire in road rage

A NEW Zealand man who smashed up and then set fire to his own car after he became enraged when it broke down was "in a world of mess" today, police said.

The 20-year-old Wanaka man was facing charges of wasting police time and making a false statement as well as being liable for a bill of thousands of dollars for the fire service call-out cost, The Southland Times reported.

Wanaka police Constable Peter Reed said the man's Nissan Bluebird sedan broke down about midnight Saturday in the South Island town, prompting the owner to jump on the roof and smash the front and rear windows.

He then walked to a bar for a drink, before returning to the car about 1:45am (local time) yesterday, setting fire to the vehicle and walking off. Hours later he told the police his car had been set alight by persons unknown, but then he confessed he had done it.

"He is in a world of mess," Reed said.

Reed said the incident was an example of bad decision-making and drunken stupidity, with the accused to appear in court next week.

A German pair who holidayed in Egypt received just £30 compensation and an apology from the travel company they used after being offended by a 'Hitler cabaret' at their hotel.

The couple complained of ‘entertainers giving the Hitler salute and goose-stepping in a sick joke about how Germans greet one another.’

But the judge ruled that it didn't ruin the whole holiday, because it happened on the last but one day, and was not discriminatory.

The couple were staying in the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh - a favourite spot of former prime minister Tony Blair.

According to their evidence in a court in Munich, the couple were looking forward to the show in their hotel. One part of the cabaret was: 'How foreigners greet each other in their land.'

When it came to the German greeting, the performers goose-stepped past each other with their arms outstretched screeching ‘Heil!’

The man lived up to the German stereotype by also complaining that someone had snaffled the sun lounger cover he had rented for the entire one-week holiday.

‘It took 30 minutes to get it back and was most inconvenient,’ said the man.

Back in Germany the unhappy traveller decided to take legal action, demanding a 25-per-cent refund on the £600 package holiday plus £450 compensation for having his ‘vacation ruined.’

He argued that the show had made him feel unwelcome because he was German.

He won a symbolic victory on Monday when a court in Munich ruled that he should indeed get a discount, albeit just £30.

When is was in Germany back in the mid 1960's, we found most Germans to be accomadating.

However, we did run into a few that were bloody a-holes.

The nicest people were in Norway, Denmark and Switzerland.

Then we went to France................ :arg

edited to add: even though my dad could speak French (with an Algerian accent from WW2) those frogs pretended not to understand him. Believe it or not, not all Parisians were full of themselves as we once thought. Once out in the French countryside, it was like a different planet. The French there were very nice to us Americans.

All in all, glad to get back to the USA.......you can have Europe (except for the UK). :ok

I once went to see my West German (when there was still East and West) friend's home near Cologne. ...what, just cause I'm a Latina, I can't travel?

...and I was reminding myself over and over: 'don't mention the war!'; 'don't mention the war!'

With my first step in the door and all my German friend's mother could say was 'Zince ze var ...! Aftur ze var ...! Ze war Zis... Ze war Zat ...

She couldn't shut up about it! Image

An 80-year-old woman accused of hurling anti-Semitic, racist and homophobic abuse at neighbours has been given an Anti-social Behaviour Order (Asbo).

Edna Beck subjected her neighbours in Hove to "intolerable" behaviour, Brighton Magistrates' Court was told.

She had been overheard shouting "Sieg heil", performed a Nazi salute at her neighbour and goose-stepped behind a visitor, prosecutors said.

Local authority officials welcomed the interim Asbo granted to Beck.

Mike Tyler, prosecuting for Brighton and Hove City Council, said young children had been left frightened after she called them "Hitler's children" as they played in the garden.

The poor thing is delusional.

I actually kind of feel sorry for her inspite of her outbursts.

I think she needs a man. :loon
