Want your rubbish collected?

Ok, which way do you swing?
A housewife who asked her local council why her bin had not been collected was sent a questionnaire in response - which demanded to know her ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.

Richenda Legge, a 56-year-old grandmother, had wanted to know why one plastic rubbish bag had not been lifted by bin men.

Instead of dealing with her complaint, Norfolk District Council sent her a customer survey with a series of highly personal questions.

Mrs Legge, from Beeston Regis, said: 'I though the survey was going to be about the bin service and might even explain why my rubbish was not collected when it should have been.

'Instead it asked me things like my employment status, disability and religious beliefs.

'But I really saw red when I read the question about my sexual orientation. There was a choice of heterosexual and straight, gay woman/lesbian, bi-sexual or ''other''.

'As it so happens I am happily married to Mr Legge so I can’t on earth see what any of that has to do with the fact that my rubbish wasn’t taken away when it should have been.

'I found the questions offensive and unnecessary - and so I shredded and recycled it.

'At a time when the council is making cutbacks it seems an absolute waste of money to send out things like this - there was even a reply-paid envelope.

Mrs Legge, who suffers from arthritis, added: 'The form I expected to be about my query over the bins was just a customer satisfaction survey asking questions about how the council had dealt with my query.

'The rest of the questions which were on a separate form were much more personal - I can’t believe they need to know all that about people who pay their rates and expect a decent rubbish collection service.'

Her husband Bill, a 75-year-old retired engineer, said: 'My wife only phoned the council to ask why an extra bag of rubbish hadn’t been collected on the same day as the black wheelie bin was emptied.

'When they asked her if she wanted to take part in a customer service survey she was very keen to air her views about rubbish collection.

'The last thing she expected was to be questioned about her religion or sexual orientation.'

Norfolk District Council has apologised and vowed to scrap the 'intrusive' form.

Council leader Helen Eales said: 'There is far too much red tape - even at well-woman clinics staff ask the same list of questions.

'The rules state we must demonstrate as a local authority that we are being fair to everyone - but I fail to see how knowing that a trans-sexual called us about their wheelie bin would help us in any way at all.

'At the moment it is still a legal requirement for us to carry out equality minority under rules brought in by the Labour government.'

Please note;

This has been posted in "Laffs" therefore you have to indicate whether you found it funny or not, as otherwise locatek gets confused.

Also, this is an article from "The Daily Mail" therefore Locatek may be inclined to post her "Daily Fail" logo, and question its veracity, without ever giving an indication of what about the article she is claiming to be untrue.

As this article was originally printed on page dimensions of roughly 430 × 280 mm (16.9 in × 11.0 in) locatek has the right to insist is is untrue is some way or other, without revealing what it is she claims to be wrong about it.

This article may have been "lifted" in some way from a news source by the Daily Mail, by the extraordinarily devious method of the Mail buying it, therefore...something or other...give her some fucking attention for Christ's sake.....

I did not find it the least bit humorous because it came from the "Daily Fail"...

Apparently they misunderstood the lady...

She wanted the contents of her trash can picked up....

Not something else to throw in it....

I laughed, but I have to say that if I lived in that district, and I found out that my tax dollars were going to paying both for this kind of idiocy and the salaries for the kind of idiots who would send this sort of idiocy out, I might be somewhat less bemused...

Probably more pissed off at and embarrassed by the antics of my local government than entertained....

But then I live in San Francisco, so I'm well acquainted with being in that position....

Actually, I have to say I DO want my trash picked up!

But I'm too cheap to pay someone to pick it up (not to mention dealing with moving the barrels a quarter mile to the road and hoping they don't get stolen or run over before I can bring them back in), so I take it to the dump myself.

Yes, I'm sure Richenda found it hilarious to be laffed at about her bin, because she was not LGBT; and surely she's glad for the help The Daily Fail provided by exposing her as non-such, while excusing Somalis simultaneously. The world is a much better place for the news-worthy nuttiness of the UK, that matters not.

..wow, I didn't even ask for that attention , thX! :ok

LMFAO - Yep, the Mail sure loves them Somalis! They love all immigrants in fact.

Do you really expect to be taken seriously here when you come out with such bollocks? That last post shows how little you actually know about the newspaper you constantly berate.

Numpty.

Yeah right...

Do you think anyone buys your "I'm not ignorant/retarded/uninformed/soused, it was a joke" line anymore?
It's a shame that you haven't got anough backbone to admit to any errors whatsoever.

I believe that you are the most cowardly person I have ever had the misfortune to come across.

How did your fellow marines (if that's actually true) take to you when they had to pick up the slack because you were cowering in a corner?

Good point Scoot, well made.

I think you're spot on about the cause and effect...

...but I still think I'm right about the extent. :ok

Okay, I have stayed out of this for the most part, and I intend to continue to, but when LoCa says this:
..wow, I didn't even ask for that attention , thX! :ok
and this:
Who needs to seek attention; it's being thrown at me now. :D
At least as far as this thread is concerned, she's got a valid point....

Lord knows it's fair to say that LoCa has posted some "odd" things, and that she has brought a lot of negative attention on herself by bringing "issues" into threads where they really had no place, taking gratuitous swipes, engaging in baiting, etc....

But that having been said, she really can't be fairly accused of "derailing" this thread....

The fact is that she was referenced extensively in the OP, (based on comments she had made in other threads) and a couple of jabs were taken at her after that, before she ever posted word one in this thread.....

Now , she bears some responsibility for that happening, because in a forum like this, "your reputation always precedes you" and her prior behavior is what led to the comments in the OP being made in the first place....

But when comments like that are made in a thread before a person has said anything, and then that person comes in and responds, they really can't be accused of "derailing" the thread....

The thread was already kinda "derailed"....
