Abdul-Jabbar commented on other topics:

— He said his role as co-pilot “Roger Murdock” in the 1980 comedy movie “Airplane” changed his life.

“I think everybody in the airline industry is required to watch it,” he said. “When I get on planes, every so often the stewardess or the pilot will come out and ask me, ‘Do you want to fly the plane?’ “

During a flight in Europe, a pilot escorted him from his seat to the cockpit for takeoff.

“I get a good laugh from it,” he said. “It’s been over 25 years since I made that movie and people still watch it all the time. I guess it’s a classic.”

Oh god, a real original. I loved it when it came out, stil love it, and still use catchprases from it like; "and don't call me Shirley."

Funnily enough I have a client on my books at the moment whose surname is "Dunn."

Have to bite my tongue constantly when seeing him.

M'eh. I roared with laughter when it first came out, and during subsequent viewings of it, some bent so tears were produced.

Nowadays, I find I can sit through it and jus raise a titer.

(This is possibly due to His Nibbs doing the line about 3 seconds before the line is delivered on screen. Do you know haw ANNOYING that is? "Yes I know that is the line. I was fucking waiting for him to deliver it.)

I have a hard time convincing people that before that movie Leslie Nielsen was considered a dramatic actor.

He was a bad guy in an old "Columbo" episode. He played a spy who was killed early on in the episode by Patrick McGoohan (another spy). McGoohan directed as well. I just looked him up on IMDb -- this guys been working non-stop for 60 years!
