I'm betting she's blonde

A Wiltshire hairdresser wanted to ask her local mayor to open her new salon - but invited one from 12,000 miles away in New Zealand by mistake.

Lisa Foster, owner of Zoria Beauty in Marlborough, mistakenly asked the mayor of Marlborough in New Zealand to be guest of honour at the opening.

Mayor Alistair Sowman said he realised the error after noticing the "phone number looked a bit strange".

Ms Foster said: "I had no idea there was a Marlborough in New Zealand."

The email, sent by Ms Foster, was an invitation for Mr Sowman and his wife to attend the official opening of Zoria Beauty on 8 October.

She said: "I went on to Google and did a search and emailed him.

"I didn't realise there were so many Marlboroughs - anyway he emailed back to say he'd love to come but it would be quite a long journey.

"I was so embarrassed - I didn't tell my partner for a couple of days."

The invitation had been intended for Mr Sowman's Wiltshire counterpart, the Marlborough Town Council Alexander Kirk Wilson.

Realising the mistake, Mr Sowman emailed Ms Foster to say he was grateful for the invitation but was "not sure I can make it on the 8th".

"But what a lovely invite - and if I'm ever in that part of the world I'd like to take your offer [to visit] up," he said.

Ms Foster said she would not now be inviting the local mayor - because she thought she had "left it a bit late".

"I had no idea there was a Marlborough in New Zealand."
Not a sauvignon blanc fan, then?

I had no idea there was a Marlborough in Wiltshire. Quite frankly, when I hear "Marlborough," I think "Napa of the South Pacific -- at half the price."

Frankly, I learn most of my geography at the wine shop.

I prefer to keep it that way, too.

I am in 100% agreement with Sue.

:D

BTW - When silly little Marlborough in the UK can come up with an excellent drop of wine, they might register on my geography scale.

My local (very well supplied) wine store is largely organized in sections according to point of origin: France, Germany, italy, Spain, Chile, Aus/NZ, California. When they open a UK aisle, I'll let you know.

(They do stock Newcastle Brown Ale, but I haven't seen anyone actually buy it.)

I can vouch for that, my chest is covered with hair!

Newcastle Brown is excellent when consumed at room temp. :ok

Ha, I know it only by reference in a Humble Pie song.

On your recommendations, I suppose I'll give it a try this week.

Get on! Remember, let it reach room temp, do not serve cold/chilled.

I look forward to your review of it here.

My hat is off to you sir! You are possibly the only non-British person who understands that good beer does not need to be almost frozen in order to be enjoyed.
