Not THAT AA, American Airlines

In a move that is sure to be toasted by international passengers (especially those who like to fly toasted), American Airlines will begin serving free beer and wine in all classes on flights between the United States and Europe, Asia and select destinations in Latin America.

Apparently, all it took to change the policy was being asked.

“Our customers asked for complimentary beer and wine, and we listened,” said Rob Friedman, American’s vice president for marketing. Also, he said, “Offering complimentary beer and wine to our loyal customers in all classes of service allows American to better align our product offering with fellow oneworld alliance members.”[wtf is that supposed to mean?]

The free beer and wine on American Airlines (which shares initials with an organization that decidedly does NOT serve beer and wine) will begin on Feb. 1.

It’s unclear if this is a return to past practices or a new move to better serve — and better sedate — international passengers. Beer and wine offerings will vary by flight. Liquor will be available for purchase as usual. As on all flights, the amount served to individual passengers is at the discretion of the cabin crew.

It means that they are trying to keep up with the practice of other airlines they partner with, which provide better service.

Sounds good to me.

I recall the days when flying (prop. jobs) we'd get dressed in our Sunday best, meals served on china with real silverware, cigarettes and liquor were gratis.

At least AA is doing something right. :ok

The free booze is so you forget you're packed in like cattle, in seats designed for people under 5 feet tall and 100 pounds.
