An angry father has taught his disgruntled teenage daughter a very public lesson in respecting one’s elders by shooting her laptop on camera and then publishing the video on her Facebook page. Tommy Jordan, of Albemarle, North Carolina, made the video after his 15-year-old daughter Hannah had apparently written a Facebook post complaining about all of the chores she has to do at home. She was also moaning about how difficult her parents made her life. But when IT worker Mr Jordan found the post he decided grounding her would not be punishment enough and made the video. That right there is your laptop’, he says in a YouTube video, pointing a camera at a computer lying in a patch of dirt on the ground. ‘This right here is my .45,’ he says, moving a pistol into the frame.
He cocks the weapon and shoots nine rounds into the laptop. The video entitled ‘Facebook Parenting: For the Troubled Teen’ is dedicated to his rebellious daughter.

So...will the headline for 2013 be "FAMILY DIES IN 4-ALARM FIRE-ARSON SUSPECTED"?

There are thousands of comments online about this.
Some people are shocked and dismayed.
I am, too.
I think it's a terrible waste of a perfectly good laptop - he should have sold it on eBay!

When I first read the article quoted in the post, I thought, "Well, this seems kind of extreme. Afterall, what teenager doesn't think their parents treat them unfairly?"....
But when I watched the video, and heard just what this snotty little bitch had written, and also the fact that her father had already tried the things that I thought I might do in that situation; grounding her, taking away her laptop for a period....and the arrogant little brat was dumb enough to do it again....
I say:
Well done that man!
Mr. Jordan is my nominee for Father Of The Year....

Wonder how long before she says the three magic words to a teacher: "He molested me."

So cursing, destroying property, and using guns is how you teach a 15-year-old a lesson? God forbid you actually talk to your child, Tommy.
Oh, and fyi, I think most states don't allow kids to get a work permit until they are 16, so other than babysitting and other off the books stuff, just what kind of job does daddykins think she is going to get at 15?

Then how do we have child actors & baby sitters & paper boys?
I imagine it was short part time at best, but then again I'm not privy to the "whole" story...

FLSA allows employment at age 14; most states do as well, with limitations on hours during the school day under age 16. A 15 year old in Texas can work for wages outside the family.
Her chores aren't awful, and she is materially spoiled, like many kids these days. Guns are common in Texas; there is nothing threatening about shooting her laptop. I guess he could have smashed it with a hammer instead. I still think he should have sold it.
She said awful, nasty things - and the cursing was her, not him. Sounds like they'd already talked to her, and punished her with grounding and loss of privileges.

He cursed at her in the video, and that last bullet - "this is from your momma" just lovely.
Yeah the kid is spoiled. But who spoiled her? Why, her parents, of course.....

No, absolutely not. And clearly the kid needed punishing. But making it public and threatening was a very poor way to teach a teenager a lesson.

She's their teenager; maybe they have a better idea what will be effective than a random person on the Internet. You spend time with nephews, Guin, I'm sure you realize that every child is individual and the parents are most likely to know what works, if they've been paying attention. Her attitude isn't necessarily their fault; lots of teenagers go through asshole stages despite good parenting. Expecting her to do chores in return for her material blessings, and to get a job to contribute to all that she wants, tells me her parents ARE trying to teach her positive values like responsibility, hard work, respect, etc.

I completely agree with BSG on this.
(BSG's batting .500 today...she's got the right end of the stick 100% on this one, and is just as wrong as wrong can be in the "humans versus other animals" discussion... )

Good on this Dad; he's probably the one who gave her the laptop, if she doesn't have a job; and he's justified in taking it away from her, if she didn't use it properly.
Reminds of this dad, who used a bat instead of a gun;
FYI -I've been working since 12, by choice.

I will repeat -- I agree the child needed some punishing. I agree kids need chores and responsibility, and that they should work for wages, at some point in their lives before they go to college, it they can manage that and grade expectations as well (not every child can).
I disagree that punishing a child publicly, in such a threatening way, is an effective way to teach a teenager a lesson, and utterly fails to take into account that the parents might have been complicit in her spoiling. Since Daddy-o mentioned a StepMom and a Mom, she appears to be a child of divorce --- anyone want to wager what happens to kids in split families, and how often there are behavioral problems -- maybe because of the divorce, maybe because of the post-divorce spoiling from the guilt-ridden parents.

Nail => Head Guin,
This man is probably going through the competition between divorced parents of:
'Who can buy the child's luv, most?'
...which makes the kid so spoiled, but so maladjusted.
Playing the parents against each other, is common in any family, but whatever he's tried for normal parenting, is probably frustrated by the manipulation of the bio-mom, to take advantage of this game.
I'm guessing in the mother's household, she encourages and agrees with her daughter, that her daughter's chores are so excessive, so as to make her father look bad. Which is why the girl wrote what she wrote, in spite of past punishments.
The bio-dad felt he had to gain support in his discipline efforts by turning to the public; She said this online - well, these are facts, online.
...with a good bit of personal outrage of being lied/manipulated about. You can't blame him. Fortunately. he's taking it out physically on the laptop, while not against his daughter or anyone else.
His Facebook message is to explain his emotions and his actions. So, he would not be tried by the media, for HER post. So, I still think he's trying to be the best father, not the best played.
