'Cha, does nobody follow the history; that this was how the first body armor, was tested/sold.

...they just shot it at themselves.

Of course you shoot at it. But quite frankly, depending at what stage of "testing" you are at, it might be a good idea to not be in it when you do.

LOL at the potential Darwin.

Brit? Brit? With THAT American accent?

I recall there was a guy from Michigan who sold body armor, and his advertising was simple: if he said it would stop a certain caliber, that meant he would put the vest on & have someone SHOOT him with that caliber!

That could be dangerous if unqualified.

Most vests like this are meant to stop low velocity rounds (pistols).

A .25 Auto and a .25/06 although the same caliber have very different effects on this type armor.

Want bigger say .38 even a .357 vs .30/06 again same caliber...

If he is selling a vest that will stop a .480, thyat means he will put on the vest & you can shoot him with a .480.

I recall he had one vest that would stop a 7.62NATO (.308) hardball round at ten feet.

AGAIN, as you can see one must qualify what one is referring to.

To prevent penetration by a .30 cal (7.62 mm) one must don a Level III or higher vest.

A level I will stop a .38 (also a .30 cal) there will be no bragging rights by the same person shot by an M14...
