Prime Minister Julia Gillard's behind has featured in television discussion once again as feminist icon Germain Greer defended her earlier comments.
"Women are fat-arsed creatures," she told ABC's Q&A last night. You may have noticed that since I made my unwise speech, I did say get rid of the bloody jackets and she bloody did.
"Go right ahead Julia, wave that arse!"
On her previous appearance on the interactive TV panel, in March, Ms Greer said Prime Minister Julia Gillard wore unflattering jackets and had a "big arse".
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott got in some trouble a week later for saying "Germaine Greer was right on that subject" in response to a question about the comments at a community forum.
A young woman in the Q&A audience last night asked Ms Greer if she thought her past comments were appropriate, given the fight to move the focus of political reporting away from female politicians' appearance.
Ms Greer said her problem with the prime ministerial jackets was they looked like they had come from "some kind of a stage hamper" and didn't belong to her.
"She looked like an organ grinder's monkey," she said.
"You may have noticed that since I made my unwise speech, I did say get rid of the bloody jackets and she bloody did."
Host Tony Jones cautioned that the feminist author "may be in danger of making things even worse", to which she replied, "Good! Good!"
"A woman is not her jacket," Ms Greer said.
As for the issue of the behind, she said she wasn't condemning the prime minister, but lauding her.
"You don't understand how tough it is for little girls who think that having a fat arse is to be dead, is to be finished," Ms Greer said.
