It's called old age, not Altzhiemers.
...my grandma had that.

Eastwood's appearance was awful, and pardon me for raining on this parade, but comments about Alzheimers (or dementia -- confirmation of Alzheimers itself is actually only available post-mortem) should never be in a category called "Laffs!" And it's not just "old age," either.
My incredible, hard-working, brilliant father has dementia -- seeing him struggle, becoming a shadow of himself, unable to do so many of the things he loved to do, is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I cannot begin to explain how awful it is --- i'm sure some of you have experienced it. It is definitely not a laughing matter.

Re: Altzhiemers is a terrible disease...
It was a bizarre performance, but in the sweep of things it's not going to really count for anything...
The worst part about it is that in deciding to put Clint on in the 10:00 hour, when the broadcast networks finally showed up for their one hour of coverage, the campaign missed an opportunity to use the video about Romney, (which was actually pretty good) as the lead in to his speech in front of a much more expanded audience.
It's also stepped on the post convention coverage of Romney's speech itself, (which was also pretty good, at least for Romney.)
So while Clint's performance isn't going to do any direct damage, (since no one is going to see a figure like him as representative of anything other than himself...I'm sure right now after watching it, he must feel embarrassed.) it hurt in that a valuable opportunity to present something much more positive for the campaign to a large audience was lost.

Re: Altzhiemers is a terrible disease...
There is no 'T' in Alzheimer's & the 'E' precedes the 'I'.
And I don't think it was a bad performance by Clint. It was just something different and unexpected.
Also I agree that the subject of Alzheimer's should never be discussed in the 'Laffs' forum.

Fair enough Guiin and Joe, my apologies for using the term.
But a grown man talking to a chair, in the way Eastwood failed to pull it off, is certainly a cert for laffs.

"What WAS that thing Clint Eastwood just did?" tweeted actress Mia Farrow. "How could they let it happen?"
Film critic Roger Ebert said the actor had come across as "sad and pathetic".
Adam Levine of pop band Maroon 5 suggested that the veteran Dirty Harry star had gone "nutterbutters".
In general, though, the Hollywood community was less forgiving, with US actor Zachary Quinto purporting to be "legitimately scared" after his contribution.
"Is Clint Eastwood meant to instil confidence in Republicans?" mused Quinto, best known for his role as Mr Spock in 2009's Star Trek film.
"Apparently Clint Eastwood had an argument with an empty chair regarding its political standpoint," remarked Simon Pegg, another member of the current Trek crew.
"Maybe Clint is a sleeper agent for the Democrats sent in under deep cover to make the Republicans look stupid. No wait, that's Romney."
"Clint Eastwood became huge star as a man of few words," tweeted NBC veteran Tom Brokaw. "As a surprise guest on the Tampa stage he had too many words."

Still a superbly handsome man for his, or any age, though.

HUH?
After 60, it's all downhill.
Clint Eastwood, I loved him as the fifth son of Pa Cartwheel in Bonanaza and his performance in Bullitt was way over the top!

It 's called 'acting'; at 2:00 Mr. Eastwood gestured and explained, he'd be addressing the chair as if Obama was in it. This is the basic Michael Chekhov Acting Technique;Gob wrote:Fair enough Guiin and Joe, my apologies for using the term.

Stanislavsky recognized [Chekhov's] genius and appointed him as the Head of the Second Moscow Art Theatre, where Chekhov started to develop his innovative psycho - physical acting techniques incorporating imagination and body.

It was very, very sad to watch.
Life is like photography. You use the negative to develop.

It would have been the Chekhov Technique if it were any good; as it is, it was a man making a big assed fool of himself.loCAtek wrote:It 's called 'acting'; at 2:00 Mr. Eastwood gestured and explained, he'd be addressing the chair as if Obama was in it. Right, and Sir Paul sounding off at the Queen's celebrations was a 'fool'.
Chuck Norris being upstaged by his CGI counterpart in a World of Warcraft® commercial was a 'fool'.
Stanley Kubrick's final, enigmatic, work 'Eyes Wide Shut' was made by a 'fool'.

Successful execution = good performance. Unsuccessful execution = making a big assed fool out of yourself.
I'm sorry if that still isn't clear enough for you, but I'm already bored with this.

Re: Altzhiemers is a terrible disease...
Look, there's really no reason to be "sad" about his performance....
Eastwood, isn't losing it, his mind is just fine, he's still directing movies, (you couldn't do that if you were going senile)
He just threw something together that he thought would be funny, and it didn't work....
