Caerphilly Castle Ladies FC exits league after 43-0 loss
A football team that suffered a 43-0 defeat at the weekend has withdrawn from the league it was playing in.
Caerphilly Castle Ladies' results in the Women's Welsh Premier League will be wiped out.
This season the side, whose first team walked out last summer, found itself on the wrong end of 36-0, 28-0 and 26-0 scorelines as well as the 43-0 loss.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) said the club had taken the move "with regret".
Caerphilly Castle Ladies: results until withdrawal from league
0-5 v Northop Hall
0-18 v Port Talbot Town
0-10 v Wrexham
0-18 v Cardiff Metro University
0-26 v Llandudno Junction
0-36 v Newcastle Emlyn
0-21 v Port Talbot Town
1-14 v Caernarfon Town
0-28 v Aberystwyth Town
0-43 v Cardiff Metro University
The team, known as the Castle, found itself in the headlines following its latest defeat, which meant the side had let in 219 goals and scored just one in 10 games.
Club officials had said earlier this week they were putting a "brave face" on the results and had no intention of giving up but the statement issued through the FAW indicated the club will focus on bringing on youth players.
It said: "With regret, the club has decided to withdraw its membership from the Welsh Premier Women's League with immediate effect.
"Caerphilly Castle is very proud of its tradition of nurturing young footballing talent over the years but the club has found it difficult to compete at the highest level of Welsh Women's Football this season.
AdvertisementChairwoman Julie Boyce, speaking on Tuesday
"The committed officials of the club fully intend to continue their passion of developing players throughout the different age groups and hope to return to the Welsh Premier Women's League as soon as possible."
The senior team's results will be wiped from the records but the club wished the 11 sides remaining in the league luck for the rest of the season.
In terms of numbers participating at all levels, Caerphilly Castle rival Cardiff City for the title of biggest women's club in Wales.
They finished mid-table in the last two Welsh Premier League seasons, and in 2010 lifted the Welsh League Cup.

Re: Losers!!
The Caerphilly Castle Ladies' footie team meets tonight,
In an upstairs aspidistra'd room that's lit by candlelight,
Where Elizabeth Jones and Lily O'Grady
And nine or ten more married ladies
Practice every week unspeakable losing rites.
Dressed in their Sunday shorts and their flowerpot hats,
Respectable middle-aged ladies - running to fat -
There's Elizabeth Jones and Lily O'Grady
And nine or ten more married ladies
Each swept by the broomstick and that's that.
But they don't waste time with scoring goals or a penalty now and again, no.
None of your dribbling, quibbling, petty soccer skills for them. No,
Elizabeth Jones and Lily O'Grady
And nine or ten more married ladies
Prefer to be thrashed by the whiskery les-be-ens
Their husbands potter at snooker down the club,
Unimpressed by the devilish jiggery-poke and rub-a-dub-dub,
While Elizabeth Jones and Lily O'Grady
And nine or ten more married ladies
Are dancing naked for the help of Beelzebub.
And after the final game and the devil's kiss,
After their savage pantings, their hysterical twist, well,
Elizabeth Jones and Lily O'Grady
And nine or ten more married ladies
Go back home for cocoa and kick the dog - and miss.
So be careful how you go of a Saturday night:
If you see a little old lady kicking balls, it very well may be
Elizabeth Jones or Lily O'Grady
Or one of those satanical ladies.
Their eyes are wild and bright, their cheekbones all alight.
Don't go where they invite,
Because the Caerphilly Castle Ladies' footie team scored zero tonight.

Re: Losers!!
It's actually more embarrassing for Caernarfon Town...
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Gee, a soccer game where 43 points were scored might actually have been worth watching...
I guess that innovative "No Goalie" formation didn't work out as well as they'd hoped...

I was thinking the same thing. Soccer is usually 0-0 or 1-0 after overtime and penalty shots. Can't imagine 43 points in a game. Must be some kind of record.Lord Jim wrote:Gee, a soccer game where 43 points were scored might actually have been worth watching...

Re: Losers!!
It's not points - it's goals you dillweeds. Tottenham just lost 3-2 to Liverpool and 4-1 to Inter Milan (but beat Milan because over two games the score aggregate was 4-4 and our "away" goal in Milan counted double. So Milan are out and we go on. Both those games were amazingly good/bad depending on who you support. All this talk about 0-0 and 0-1 is just so much rubbish.
And "overtime" (you mean "extra time") and penalty shootouts are only involved in knock-out competitions. Regular league play does not require either - your final score is whatever it is after 90 minutes - win, lose or draw
A game with 43 goals put past the opposition would be absolutely awful to watch. Even for the fans whose team scored 43. Simply awful

Well put that man!
Those who truly believe that all footy games end 0-0 or 1-0 and that there has to be high scores to make any game watchable are either showing their lack of knowledge of the game or ADHD sufferers.

Your being a man who spent much of his adult life having to suffer through the annual displays of ineptitude of the Cleveland teams, I can understand why you might well believe that...The USA - an entire nation with no concept of what "sport" means

You may have a point there....A game with 43 goals put past the opposition would be absolutely awful to watch.
Something like 27-16 or 23-20 would have been much more engaging....

Re: Losers!!
(a) they are not driven; they run of their own accord. OK they might pop 'em in the back of the Landie to take home sometimes but usually they run back there tooCrackpot wrote:This fr someone who hails from a country that calls driving a pack of ravenous dogs to devour a fox "sport"MajGenl.Meade wrote: The USA - an entire nation with no concept of what "sport" means

(b) they do not "devour" the fox. That is definitely infra-dig. Besides, you'd lose the ears and be unable to smear blood on the youngest rider's face if that happened.
(c) "the country" banned the sport of fox hunting some years ago
(d) would that certain other countries (oh just one) would ban calling their own internal sports "World" championships. Countries that play cricket, rugby and (real) football (played with feet and ball) engage in genuine World championships.
And LJ, we Clevelanders do indeed learn to appreciate "sports" in which one side has a distinct disadvantage - like badger-baiting, rabbit shooting, fox hunting, running an abattoir etc
Go Browns (and take the Indians and Cavs with you)

Soccer affords the rest of the world the ability to travel back and forth to the "cooler" without missing any action...

One does not need to suffer from ADHD to become bored with soccer. Now cricket, there you might be correct.showing their lack of knowledge of the game or ADHD sufferers

So it's lack of knowledge then oldr...
