Windscreen wipers not working

Post by Gob »

A former substance abuse counsellor who drove while drunk for two miles (3.3km) with a pedestrian's body embedded in her windscreen has been jailed.

Sherri Lynn Wilkins, 55, pleaded no contest to the 2012 hit-and-run murder and was sentenced to 25 years by a California judge.
Wilkins only stopped when bystanders confronted her at a traffic light about the half-naked body on her bonnet.
The victim, 31-year-old Phillip Moreno, was pronounced dead in hospital.

"After the collision, [Wilkins] drove several miles with Moreno stuck on or in her windshield," a judge ruled earlier this month.

"She did not stop. She did not call 911. Meanwhile, Moreno was in the process of bleeding to death on the hood of her car."
Prosecutors argued that Wilkins had failed to help Mr Moreno, and swerved her car to try to dislodge his body from her vehicle.
Wilkins admitted to drinking three shots of vodka and one beer inside her car before driving home that night through Torrance, in the greater Los Angeles area.

During her trial Wilkins claimed that Mr Moreno had seemed to jump in front of her car.

The victim's family have sued the rehabilitation centre that employed Wilkins, claiming that she had been obviously intoxicated while leading therapy sessions.

In a written statement the Twin Town Treatment Center said that the company "had no cause to intrude or challenge her recovery".
Chief executive David Lisonbee wrote that Wilkins had not been working on the day of the crash, and had not told company management she had been relapsing.
Police said that her blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of her arrest.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

The discourse of discussion probably centered around recipes for mixed drinks.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Speaking of windshield wipers.....

On 16 February 2017, Facebook user Ashley Hardacre published the following image and warning, claiming that abductors and thieves were employing a new tactic to lure potential female victims out of their cars:

As some of you know I work at a store in the Mall out in Flint. I worked a closing shift tonight so me and the girls I work with always walk out together to make sure we are safe in the parking lot. I got to my car and locked the doors behind me immediately as I always do and noticed that there was a blue flannel shirt on my windshield. There were two cars near me and one was running so I immediately felt uneasy and knew I couldn’t get out to get it off. At first I thought maybe someone had just thrown it on my car for some odd reason. I used my windshield wipers to try to get them off but the shirt was completely wrapped around my wiper blade. I had seen posts lately about people finding things under their windshield wipers in the burton/Flint area as an attempt to get girls out of their cars and distracted. Luckily I knew better than to remove the shirt with cars around me so I drove over to a place where I was safe and quickly rolled down my window and got the shirt off. I don’t know why the shirt was on my car but it had to have been intentional the way it was put on there. I really can’t think of another reason as to why someone would put it on my car. Tomorrow I am informing security of the situation and making them walk me to my car from now on. It definitely frightened me a little bit. I’m so glad my parents had informed me that it was happening in our area, I just never thought it would potentially happen to my car.
Snopes, however, says that it's bullshit.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Hey, at least she was stopped at a light and didn't drive all the way home and park in the garage:
Man Stuck in Windshield Left to Die

March 08, 2002|From Associated Press

FORT WORTH — A nurse's aide hit a homeless man with her car, drove home with him stuck headfirst in her broken windshield and ignored his cries for help as he bled to death in her garage over the next two or three days, police say.

Chante Mallard allegedly told police she periodically went into the garage, apologizing to him :loon but doing nothing to help.

Mallard, 25, was arrested Wednesday and was later charged with murder and released on bond. She faces from five years to life in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

"I'm going to have to come up with a new word. 'Indifferent' isn't enough. 'Cruel' isn't enough to say," Tarrant County prosecutor Richard Alpert told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. " 'Heartless'? 'Inhumane'? Maybe we've just redefined inhumanity here."

Police said 37-year-old Gregory Biggs probably would have lived had he received immediate help. When the man finally died, Mallard and her friends put the stranger's body in the trunk of another car and dumped it in a park, authorities said.

That incident was used as the inspiration for the event that sets up the second season of Fargo...

Apparently this sort of thing is more common than one might think. I remember news acconts at the time. Although this body was not stuck through the windshield, the glass was severely broken. You can see it in one picture.

He pleaded no-contest over four years ago: http://www.kansas.com/news/article1090995.html

I also remember a TV show, or maybe a made for TV movie, depicting a similar incident. I don't remember which. Mrs. Mc likes to watch all the police and who-dunnit series, so they all run together.
