ceramic gloss

Post by Burning Petard »

I see lots of ads for a 'new' auto appearance enhancer. said to give 'glass-like' 'ceramic' coating and contains SiO2 or ceramic nano-particles.

I remember when car wax containing silicone was the hot new thing. DuPont produced something called "Rain Dance" Consumers Reports tested all kinds of car waxes about the same time and said they could be put in two categories, one was hard to apply and looked good and lasted a long time. second was easy to apply, looked almost as good and did not last long. They said Rain Dance was in an entirely different category--easy to apply, lasted longer, looked better than any of the others.

Rain Dance still sits on the store shelf, but it is a completely different product now The additives in the original, and other similar competitors penetrated into the finish and after body work or a repaint, the result always had little 'fisheyes' that would not go away.

Is this new 'ceramic' gonna have similar problems with time?
