Smartphone Recommendations?

Post by BoSoxGal »

I'm still using my iPhone 4s, but it's time to upgrade as the software upgrades have rendered its performance to shite and the camera lens is shot, etc.

I was planning to upgrade to the 5s, but when I stopped into the Verizon store I was pretty impressed by the looks of the Samsung Galaxy and it's also $250 cheaper for the same storage capacity - with ability to expand via removable memory card.

(As an aside, I'm going to be paying full price for the phone so I can hang onto my grandfathered unlimited data płan - I use the phone a lot for internet access and ultimately think it's financially wise.)

So, who has what, why do you love/hate it, etc? Will I be able to use my iTunes music on an Android? Or should I stay with iPhone and wait for September and the release of the rumored larger screen iPhone 6?

All suggestions feedback etc. appreciated in advance; I struggle with these decisions and would appreciate the benefit of others' experience.

Has yours gotten all laggy as you've upgraded the software?

I've got a 5s now. If you've invested time and money on apps it's difficult to make a move. I'm still very happy with IOS. My old 4s is used when we travel.

I'd wait for the next iPhone. If your 4s is getting laggy try deleting some of the less used apps, they'll still be in your purchases in the cloud so you can get them back whenever you like. I also found doing a backup, factory reset, and installing the latest IOS made an improvement to performance.

I have a 4S with 32GB I've had for almost 3 years, and I'm waiting for the 6. If its not to large, I'll upgrade to that. If it is, I'll go to the 5S and the prices will have dropped significantly. I agree with Daisy's comments -- mostly go to your settings, see what's using your storage space, and get rid of a lot of it. Then also put your emails on manual not push, keep your screen brightness down, and do a few other tricks. My phone processes fine, but the battery can't make it through a day of use without a couple of charges.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note ll - I had the choice when I got it between an iPhone and the Galaxy - I chose the Samsung because it's Android and have been more than happy with my choice. The Note ll is much bigger than an iphone though but that too was another reason for me choosing it as the screen size is much better for me when surfing the net or watching video etc. The OS has updated once I think maybe twice but I haven't noticed any bugs with any updates. The only problem I had was the memory card I was using decided to play silly buggers and although it was a genuine well known make it turned out after much googling by me that they don't play nice with Samsung phones for some reason, and actually its now in my camera and working fine as is the new card I bought for my phone.

I also like the pen tablet thingy with my note - thats come in handy several times when I'm out working I an use it to draw diagrams (badly) to explain things or to just make a quick scribbled note of something I need to look up later.

I only use the 4s for the occasional call, and for scanning twitter, (normally on the toilet at work.) So performance doesn't really affect me that much. Maybe if I had one of those phones with a bigger screen I would use it more.

Had a really frustrating time yesterday. I found out thelocal library loans out e-magazinesfor tablets and pads etc, great!! So got online and registered, wonderful!

....except... my kindle doesn't have, and will not take... "flash" which is required....

So I'll use my old ipad....which doesn't have, and will not take... IOS 7.0 to run them......

Great, now whenever I read one of your tweets I'll be thinking "I'll bet he wrote that in the bogs at work".

I was absolutely certain that the picture of the guy drinking his own piss would be the most disturbing thing I would see on this board all week...

Boy oh boy, was I wrong...
