milk crates are the best.
in 1985 -the reastaurant owners at the beach, where I worked, encouraged the employees to use the crates for furniture and storage in the rooms over the shop, where we lived. at the end of the summer they told us, the locals anyway, to go ahead and take them with us, they would cover the surcharges or whatever.
I ve been hooked ever since
I use them for laundry baskets for tool and material storage for step stools and for many other things. some I have had since 1985 others I have acquired at yardsales and auctions over the yrs. I have about 25 of them now. they stack well and the contents are visible and easily identifiable.
I don t use them for furnityre much anymore, but I used to say that I decorated in the Early Poverty style.....
it used to amuse me to see the "misuser will be prosecuted" printed on them too. the old outlaw mentality appealed to me, tho I never actually stole any of the crates I ve acquired. I have many faults but I m not a thief.
I love me some milk crates....

Milk crates are (were?) the go to furniture of college students.
Milk crates and planks pulled from wooden pallets and there was not piece of furniture I couldn't make.
(Well I couldn't make a bean bag chair.)
