Checking the balance I presume ,naw thats bad ,if you can, avoid those places ,but from experience I can tell you it would probably turned out better if the help would have pulled the car in,some people have a hard time judging distance and speed(I thought the "grease pit " was a thing from the past anyway.

If nothing else electric vehicles should do away with the need for a lot of frequent maintenance ,but the down side of this is there will be less jobs avialable in the auto upkeep business.And if the truth be known I been guilty of never changing or checking the "blinkerfluid "in any vehicle I ever owned,hard to tell how much longer they would have went with proper maintenance .

Any time you have moving parts you're going to need lubrication. Add to that the fact that an electric vehicle will be outside in less-than-optimal conditions, exposed to the elements, and that need for lubrication is going to become critical. And then there are going to be certain things in a vehicle that uses an electrical motor — brushes, commutators, rotors, windings, etc.; not to mention the battery storage and recharging system — that are going to present a whole new set of maintenance and upkeep problems.

You're going to just be trading one set of maintenance schedules for another.
(and I estimate around 80% or more of the average owners will mostly or totally ignore them, but that's something else again...)

Yes, I've gone there (just yesterday, as a matter of fact); sometimes when I'm overdue for an oil change because I just don't seem to be getting around to it, it's worth the money to just get it over and done in 10-15 min. (And of course I always decline all their offers of extra parts or services. Just the oil & filter, please.)

When I frequented the Quick Lube emporiums, they always drove the car into the service bay.

Now, I go to the Honda dealer for ALL maintenance.

If they mess it up, I believe there is more recourse than going to a qwikkie lube.

Not in my state, either. (PA) However, the last time I went to a Jiffy Lube was about fifteen years ago. Maybe things have changed.

A word of caution. Quick lube joints most often install cheaper oil filters that fit properly but are not approved by the car manufacturer. If your car is under warranty and the engine experiences any internal mechanical problems the warranty can be voided.

I don't know if it's a state rule or a company rule, but when I used a nearby Jiffy Lube, they drove the car in and they drove it out.

P.S. I brought my own oil filter and they installed it.

BB ,these electrics will require one hell of a lot less maintenance then the ICE powered infernal machines,my ICE powered lawn equipment takes a a lot more upkeep then then my power tools.I can think of so many parts electric drive will away with ,cooling system .exhaust system,transmissions ,frequent brake work ,etc .You cant say electric drive isnt durable some of the biggest most reliable machinery in the world is electric drive,not mention refrigerators ,elevators ,washing machines(ICE Maytag anyone or how about an alcohol powered Singer sewing machine?) The electrics are coming long live the Infernal ICE !

Thanks Ray ,is that a Dash 8? I read in Popular mechanics one time that they had developed a 5000 HP locomotive for the western lines, I think the Dash 8 Locomotives were between 2-3000 HP, electric drive can be good but as BB said ,it will have its own set of quirks ,one interesting thing about the the Diesel electric is that sometimes the generating capacity exceeds the traction and they hook an additional electric drive unit to the primary locomotive to pull a train and it doesnt have a diesel engine on board (the engineers like to ride in these units because of the relative lack of noise and vibration)

Interesting. I've never *not* driven my vehicle into the bays of those places. Part of the point of being quick is that you don't get out of your car.

I use a Valvoline place near my office and I've never had an issue with them, oil and filter only for me (plus fluids and fire check). My local mechanic does anything else (which in 5 1/2 years of Jeep ownership has been pretty minimal so far).

Closest I've been to a Jiffy Lube is drving by one.
I have never had anyone but me change the oil in my cars, and my wifes cars. I taught my children how to change their own oil. My son does his own changes while my daughter does sometimes. Other times I do it for her.

Nor this one. I've used them twice when I could combine the trip with a smog check (done by a different business across the lot). It only has to happen once to get a video on the internut.
