Its a wonder the EPA does not say something about the oil smoke on those stunt planes(maybe its not enough to make any difference in the scheme of things)

I don't know if it makes a big difference but I think they also use paraffin to produce the same smoke effect.

IIRC, the British term paraffin is used to denote what is called kerosene in the US. Is that right?
A movie line from The African Queen referred to the boat as a paraffin burner. If someone used THAT line for a name-that-movie quote, I'd get it if I saw it first.
Two pilot neighbors of mine use used motor oil to make smoke in their planes. One is the previously mentioned YAK. I've given some oil to him. It is simply gravity fed into the hot exhaust pipe by opening a valve. Very low tech. They call it mosquito reduction. I don't think it works very well for that purpose. We still have 'skeeters.
I think some of them (especially the colored smoke) are just chemical markers, like a smoke grenade.

"Wax" refers to a wide range of substances.
You can significantly manipulate the properties of "wax" by controlling the chemistry and molecular weight of the species involved.
