I wouldn't be so sure th occupants are getting tossed around quite a bit. That being said the structure seems to behave just how you'd want it. Probably could benefit from interior side airbags.

Other notes: No offset deformable test not surpring never a pretty test. You n the small offset the top view cuts out early possibly to hide the "peeling back" of the door. Not necessarily a bad thing but not pretty.

That's actually the next vehicle I'm considering. I loved my other Volvo, and have never felt safer. The Jeep has been great and has years left, but it's a tad noisy and more truck-like than I'd like. With all the time I spend driving (between clients and court and Mom), I need something a tad more luxe.

I've been driving a Jeep for the last six+ years. I need the space for hauling Mom's medical equipment, my kayak, the Boyz, etc. So yes.

Oh yeah — 4-door sedans with lots of legroom and real trunks (instead of just a storage space for a donut spare tire) ....

Patriot. Small SUV (the GC is too big). It's been just the right size. The XC60 is similarly sized.

And I like the higher clearance, given where I live and the semi-regular need to evacuate (or return) through overwash, rock, and cobble.

And BB, I have always chosen my vehicle to meet my needs and desires, not anyone elses. I don't care what anyone thinks about what I drive. And oh yeah, my family had an IH pre-SUV back in the 70s. It's not an entirely new idea.

Not impressed by the roll over. Hard for me to imagine real world circumstances where the car would roll with no forward vector. How old is this test? Did not seem to be any side air bags, which I just assume this top of the line vehicle would now include. And what is the puff of dust/smoke at the back/top of the vehicle in nearly every view?

Yes I see it now. And one surprise--an air bag coming out of the lower steering column or somewhere in that area protecting the driver's legs.

Knee airbags are fairly common now. Inside side airbags are just starting to be seen.

Side bags have been around for probably 15 years...common for ten. (My fleet-special Vic has them.) I recall the first knee airbag was actually from Kia.

I said inside side airbags genius. They are a bit tricky in that they don't have a surface to react against.

The roll is intended as the forward vector. I believe it's trying to simulate the car skidding sideways, catching then flipping in it's forward direction.
Saw one of the old big GMC Jimmy's do it many years ago. The guy was zipping in the left lane and when he passed me he looked in my direction. He drifted a bit, tried to correct, over corrected, fish-tailed a bit til his tires bit and rolled more than a few times in the forward direction.
yes I stopped to help. No cell phones at the time but another person stopped and I sent them to the nearby rest area to make the phone call. The guy wasn't hurt too badly, bangs and bruises. Thankfully he had his seatbelt on

My wife is a big fan of Volvos as well (we've owned Volvo wagons since the kids were small--she didn't want to dirve a mnivan), although I am concerned after they were sold, frrst to Ford and then to a Chinese manufacturer (Geely) who made cars seen as some of the least safe cars on the road. Who knows what their next generation ill be?

I did not know they were sold again. That will require further investigation. In any event, I'm planning on driving the Jeep at least three more years - until the oldest nephew turns 16ish - so I have plenty of time.
