DVD format query

Post by BoSoxGal »

So I found a bunch of DVDs I want to buy but they are in UK region 2 format. Does that mean I have to buy a DVD player from across the pond, too?

This confuses me. I didn't even realize there were different formats for different countries. Why?

Can't we all just get along? :shrug

Unless you have a "region free" player you will not be able to play them.

If you let me know the make and model of your DVD player I can let you know if it'll work BSG.
At worst, it'll mean a new player. Most are set to Region 0 these days which means they play all regions.

Right now I'm just using a Philips portable DVD player I got a year or so ago at Walmart, as I haven't got round to getting a TV. I did buy a DVD from Amazon recently that had Chinese print on the packaging and it played okay. I wonder if that means it's set to zero? I'll have to hunt up the model number.

you could try reading the manual. It usually mentions it in there.

Didn't you read her post?

She got it over a year ago ...

Everyone knows after six weeks instruction manuals get pulled into a wormhole in the space-time continuum that spits them out precisely a week after they die or get sold!

I would venture a guess that the unit is NOT a multi-region player.

I do usually keep manuals, but not for really simple equipment like this. It doesn't record, have a clock, etc. I'll see if I can figure anything out from the onscreen menu.

Thanks for the advice!

Look on the back or base BSG. You should find the manufacturer's name and the model no.

Dales, as I said in my fav hijack ;) ;

Spanish speakers ask, ¿Como? <How?>, not ¿Que? <What?>

¿Como? Is short for ¿Como se dice? <How do you say?>

'Que'/'what' is used as a noun, sometimes as 'that', while speaking is a verb.

So asking, 'How you speak' is more proper in Spanish, when asking you to repeat yourself.

'Que' would be a statement; 'That you say', and not a proper question.

Here endith the lesson, that will be five dollars.

Fawlty Towers was a BBC televison comedy, not a Spainish Language Instruction program.
