Tablet computers
Tablet computers
Can anybody recommend a reasonably priced tablet computer that is PC-based? We are looking for something at my work that would sync calendars/email/etc. with our desktops, with some additional functionality.
Small, lightweight & durable would be great features.
Essentially, we want to upgrade to Windoze 7 on all our PC machines (thank goddesses!) but doing so will make our Palms obsolete.
Any suggestions welcomed; thanks!

Re: Tablet computers
Right now none of the Windows tablets are very good.
I would wait until The autumn for the Win 8 ones, which look to be a lot better.
Also for hardware I would probably go for the Toshiba one. I had a play with the latest one running android ice cream sandwich yesterday the Win 8 one should be pretty good.
Also iPad does all of the above

Re: Tablet computers
I know, but iPads are pricier than what the boss wants to spend. We would really only use them for calendar, email, and online access when on the road (which isn't often).
Obviously we could do these things on smartphones, but we don't really need work phones (not enough out of hours business), so the cost of the additional phones on the office plan would be prohibitive.
I suggested going back to paper calendars, but apparently in this day and age, that's crazy talk!

I know this is a link to Amazon uk but these are undoubtedly available in the USA probably cheaper

This is the tablet I'm considering - its an Android my brother has one after getting fed up waiting for the Kindle Fire to be available over here - he is singing this ones praises nonstop - I'm verrrrrrrry tempted though I did have my heart set on the Kindle Fire but I'm starting to see the advantages of this one being a "proper" android and not locking me into the google/amazon stuff half of which they won't be making available to the UK apparently

If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.

Re: Tablet computers
Android can be difficult to manage in a corporate environment, also if you want the devices to be secure (guessing as its the legal biz you will) then you'll need something like Good for secure email.
The majority of my customers won't touch android with a long stick. They are great value personal devices, but a mare for any network manager.
My advice is go with windows (through my gritted teeth) but hold off until Win 8.

Maybe, but when I have to change a date I just have to erase the previous one...dales wrote:I write on my forearm with a felt tip pen.

Have I just found my new sig?

Have I just found my new sig?

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
