It is regarded as the single finest car built by Aston Martin in the famous firm's 99-year history.

So it is little wonder that this spectacular model - winner of the 1959 Le Mans 24-hour race - is set to become the most expensive British car ever.

Built in 1957, the immaculate Aston Martin DBR1/2 went on sale yesterday for a staggering £20million.

The DBR1/2 is the single most successful racing car ever built by Aston Martin.

After its victorious debut at the 1957 Spa 1000 km race, it scored five more victories.

Most important of all was the win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 in the hands of Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby.

This high point in Aston's history came in 1959 but there was also a big victory in what was one of Sir Stirling Moss's greatest races in the Goodwood Tourist Trophy.

The model is called the Aston Martin DBR1 and the /2 denotes the second of four factory models.

A fifth DBR1 was built for a private handler.

DBR stands for David Brown Racing, with David Brown the businessman who owned Aston Martin.

I completely disagree about the color Dale....

In fact I was already to write the check until I saw that terrible flat, drab, institutional green color....

To me it looks like they took a 20 million dollar car to Eal Sheib to get it painted....

I'll take one from Factory Five, a "Challenge Car" (designed for a spec-racing series)...with a double-overdrive 6-speed transmission. Make mine powered by either a rip-roaring 427ci small-block or the new 5.0 "Coyote" Mustang engine. The 427 will make more power (they top 600HP easily), but the Coyote is lighter.

Alternately...I'll take a Factory Five Mk4 roadster powered by a 514ci stroker 460 and a 5-speed. Swap to aluminum heads, aluminum water pump, and aluminum intake and it's no heavier than an iron-head 302.

Love the car, and really love the colour. It's understated and classy. It doesn't scream at you and show off loudly like some other colours - bright red for example.

Yeah, I've been contemplating using a different handle for a few years, ever since I got my current Sprinter van.

Econolines, which were about as good as it got, but thirsty, never more so than in the 10-12-mile-per-gallon gasoline-powered V-10 Econolines that came out in the late '90s. Enter the Sprinter a few years later along with its standard five-cylinder diesel that got us 27 mpg while towing — in a duallie Sprinter no less. Compared to the Ford, the Sprinter was quicker, had a bigger payload, could tow as much, rode better, had a dramatically smaller turning circle and you could stand up in its load area. What was not to like? This is what we vannists were missing in America.

...but I definitely can't call myself a Sprinter (as evidenced by my years of procrastination and indecision on this--not to mention my BMI!); maybe the end of the line for the Ford E-series will compel me to finally come to a decision on a new handle.

It is very suspect that an implied relevance to the fact that the referenced large purple vehicle was circumcised and that should be obvious to anyone who is paying attention.

Is Meade proclaiming that highly expensive & powerful cars are exclusive to only Muslims, Jews and maybe a few lottery winners?
