Britain’s cheapest car goes on sale next year, for the same price as go-faster stripes on a Ferrari.
The new Dacia Sandero will cost from just £5,995 when it arrives in the UK in January, a similar amount to some luxury options on the world’s priciest cars.
The basic five-door model, named Access, boasts 15-inch steel wheels, split-fold rear seats and headlights which stay on during the day.
And for those at the top of the Dacia tree, the flagship Laureates model starts at £7,995 and includes air conditioning, cruise control, electric rear windows and heated door mirrors.
Dacia is a Romanian budget car brand owned by French motor giant Renault.
All models have ABS braking, traction control and airbags all round, while options include a £250 touchscreen satellite navigation system, says Auto Express magazine.
Engines range from a 900cc, 89bhp petrol to 1500cc diesel, offering fuel consumption of up to 74 miles per gallon.
Previous budget cars to hit UK shores have included the Renault Twizy at £6,690 and the Suzuki Alto, priced at £7,195.
