External Hard Drive

Post by Joe Guy »

Any thoughts on THIS HARD DRIVE?

I read the reviews and can't decide whether it's good or bad. The price is very good for the amount of storage.

I'm going to use it to back up my new iMac.

thanks in advance for any thoughts or recommendations.

One Terra for those prices?

I have a 40 gig Ion (same brand) and it truly is the best thing I ever purchased for my computer. I use it to transfer my stuff from work to home and back again.

It’s about 3 years old and gets near constant use.

Mine is a USB but it uses the power from the computer. Great for desktops but some laptops don’t give it enough juice and for them I would need to get a “fire wire”.

It's fairly chunky and heavy. I have 4 hard drives now, two internal two external.

The problem being that all my programs and OS are on the smallest and oldest.

I'm at that point of, do I upgrade bits again, or get a new, all singing all dancing computer.

I know what Hen would prefer, I know what I would prefer!

Maybe if I get her a laptop for Xmas, I can build myself a superfast desktop, and set up my old computer as a server.

Let’s face it, you can only have the operating system on one drive.

And it must be seen as the C drive.

The only value to an external drive is that the data is portable. If all you want is a backup system, then you don’t need an external drive. You could do it with a less expensive internal drive,

If I ever get to the point where I have disposable income again I'm gonna get a hard drive for exclusive use for my Windoze partition.

What's the advantage of that C-P?

On-line back up. Carbonite.com. You don't even have to think about it and it's constantly working.

I'm not CP but I have 2 hard drives.

One is for my OS the other is for everything else.

If the OS crashes I don't lose anything thing there is more than evough room inside the PC box so there's not abunch of extra boxes on the desk.

But that's just me...

Sounds sensible.

When I've worked out WTF I'm doing with our present computer I may look into that.

What's a computer?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

A nice door stop.

A Yard ornament.

A paperweight.

A jack stand.

An object that makes a satisfying crash when thrown on the floor or out the window when it hits the sidewalk 4 stories below.
