Curiosity completed a successful test fire of it's laser by blasting a nearby rock. The rover is capable of examining the laser's impact and determine the chemical composition of the target.

Here's Curiosity's twitter account, and the rock has it's own twitter account. It seemed rather upset at Curiosity for some reason.
