No, Jim you're not an old crank.
A worn-out camshaft perhaps, with worn-out lobes, and out of spec run out.
An old crank, never.

The cost for constructing and launching Curiosity was $2.5 billion. The TSA has a large enough yearly budget to cover three more Curiosities. There's plenty of fat to be cut from elsewhere in the budget, NASA doesn't need any more cuts.

One would think at $2.5 Billion we would at least get color photos...

It was built on the cheap (only $2.5 billion).
You want color?
Pony up another $500 million.
High def?
That'll be another $333 million.
Surround sound?
$2.76 million.
How 'bout 500000 channel martian tv?
Don't ask.

Be patient!
They had to send the color film to the drug store to get developed.
You'll see color pictures in a few days.

Color photos will come later, the Curiosity has several different cameras. The black&white pictures so far are from the navigation cameras that the crew on Earth uses to tell the rover where to go.

Here are some images taken with two of the other cameras before they were sent to NASA to be attached to Curiosity.

Dales where do you think all of those billions go to? (I'll give you a hint: US Jobs)
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Here is an image from underneath Curiosity as it ejected the heat shield during descent.
And
here is the first color image, it looks blurry due to the transparent dust cover still being in place. They'll be lifting the dust cover later this week.

Won't that invalidate the warranty?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
