Mobile phones!

I love retro technology adverts.
Brilliant to think how far we have come in such a short time.
Mind you, I am still marveling at the fact that we have these things called mobile phones.

The very first "mobile" phone I ever used looked like this
my then boss liked to have all the very latest gadgets so he got one as soon as they came out, it was really fecking heavy and a pain in the arse to have to carry around with you.

If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.

I love old 80's Sci-fi or futurist movies, when you see the wizz bang technology of the future.
There's something more funny about 80's than there is of 70's and 60's stuff, because, I suppose it was "ooh, close, but no cigar"!

I never had one or used one, butt GOD they were impressive at the time.
Not really what you could call 'mobile', more 'lug-gable'.

Did you know that Exxon once had an Information Systems Division that marketed one of the earliest fax machines? That's it there in the top right picture, it was called a "Qwip." I remember my first encounter with them in the 1970s -- cumbersome, temperamental and producing just awful image quality, but dang! Documents over the phone! A full page in only two minutes!
GAH!

The "home computer" in 2004........ROTFLMFAO!
What in gawd's name is the steering wheel for?
Check out the "monitor" fastened to the wall!

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Re: Mobile phones!
I remember about 1974 or '75 reading an article in Newsweek about how people would soon have computers in their homes, and they'd be small enough to fit on a table top. And I thought, "That's just the stupidest thing I've ever seen; why in the world would anyone need a computer in their home?"
To be honest, I still wonder sometimes.

Re: Mobile phones!
I still find myself in awe of, and very grateful for the rise of the home computer.
I use mine to make (alleged) music, use it as a darkroom, an entertainment centre, it's my main news source, and to chat with good people all over the world.
I can even phone my mother on it!
We live in interesting times.

Oh technology, how I love thee...
:ugeek:
Personally, I don’t believe in bros before hoes, or hoes before bros. There needs to be a balance. A homie-hoe-stasis, if you will.
