Police: Aunt Shoots Niece Dead Hours After Wedding, Over Argument About Who’s Driving Home
— Police say a woman murdered her own niece just hours after her wedding, because they were arguing over who would drive home from a New Brighton bar.
It happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday at Jimmy K’s Bar on 11th Avenue.
Police say 21-year-old Katelyn Francis of Fairview, W. Va., was shot in the parking lot. She died on her way to the hospital.
Police say that Francis was at the bar with her aunt and her aunt’s new husband.
Police say the three were arguing over who was going to drive home. That’s when they say 30-year-old Christina Nicole George-Harvan pulled out a gun and shot her niece.
“To our understanding, this was over who was going to drive the vehicle, the designated driver for the evening,” said Chief Charles Vanfossan, of New Brighton Police.
Police say they believe the suspect was holding her husband’s gun.
“The only thing she said is she touched the weapon and it discharged,” Chief Vanfossan said.
Witnesses noticed the argument earlier in the bar.
The three were reportedly out celebrating George-Harvan’s wedding just hours earlier.
“Everybody in the bar noticed that there was something going on with the people, but nobody knew exactly what was happening,” said witness James Botinovich. He went on to say “the next thing you know we heard someone got shot … looked out, noticed it was right by my car.”
Meanwhile, the family is devastated.
“This is just insane. It is unbelievable, a tragedy,” said Annette Costanza, a family friend. “It breaks my heart and it’s not my child, but she was like my child because she was my best friend’s child. She is my best friend’s child.”
George-Harvan, who is from Conway, faces one count of homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.

Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: I thought Welsh weddings were bad
If only, if only there was a "good girl with a gun" to make this all come out ok.
If only if only more people had guns this would never have happened.

Those West Virginians don't take their designated driver status lightly. They don't want drunks on the road.

Re: I thought Welsh weddings were bad
I'm going to go out on a limb here, and speculate that after the wedding reception and the stop at the bar, that none of the three members of this little party were qualified to serve as a "designated driver"...“To our understanding, this was over who was going to drive the vehicle, the designated driver for the evening,”
(I'd also note that shooting the other person is probably not the best way to demonstrate your sobriety...)
Instead of arguing over who should drive, they probably just should have called a cab...

Where's the fun in that? A traditional wedding day shoot-out is the only way!!

So that's what Anne Shelton meant!
Then in the glen where the roses entwine
Lay down your arms (Lay down your arms)
Lay down your arms and surrender to mine
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

This has to be the inspiration for a country music song:
I'm your designated driver and I'm the one who'll drive
If not you'll never get home alive
You might think you've had enough, but not
Try my patience and you'll get one more shot
Refrain:
Either me or jesus will take you home tonight
It's your choice, let's not fight
One way, you just climb into the car
The other and you get a shot in the heavenly bar
I see Taylor Swift taking this to number 1
I'm your designated driver and I'm the one who'll drive
If not you'll never get home alive
You might think you've had enough, but not
