I like the inter-league games. It gives those of us in one-team markets a chance to get a little bit familiar with the other league.

In the Series, I'd love to see the Os kick the crap out of LA, but I don't think the Dodgers will get that far (and I am having doubts about the Orioles, who are right now down 5-3 in the bottom of the 4th).
GAH!

Here's what's fryin' my fritters right now; the network schedule for the coverage of the games:
WASHINGTON (WJLA) – The Washington Nationals are in the playoffs for the second time in three years and Game 1 of the NLDS kicks off on Friday.

Here’s a quick guide on how you can watch the series on TV.

NLDS - Washington Nationals vs. San Francisco Giants

The Nationals will face the San Francisco Giants in a best-of-five game series with Game 1 at home at Nationals Park.

Games 1 and 2 of the series will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1, or FS1. To find your local channel provider for FSI, check here. Game 1 on Friday starts at 3:07 p.m. Game 2 begins at 5:37 p.m.

Game 3 of the series on Monday will be broadcast exclusively on the MLB Network. This is the second year the channel will have exclusive rights to a Nationals playoff game. The channel previously televised a Nationals NLDS game in 2012.

Some local distributors that offer MLB Network are Cox Communications, Comcast, Verizon FIOS, DirecTV and DISH Network. To find your local channel provider for MLB Network, check here.

If the series goes to a Game 4 or 5, both games will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.

Since we have a Comcast Gold Package, I get these off brand stations, so this doesn't affect me...

But being the sort of egalitarian populist guy that I'm sure you all know that I am, I thought it was already unfair that in order for local fans to watch the playoff games on TV, they had to have cable (or a dish)...

Now it turns out, that for at least the divisional playoff games, even that isn't good enough. Basic cable, (which includes the ESPN channels) won't let you watch the games. Oh no, you have to be able to spring for the Cadillac Premiere Package...hoi poloi need not apply...

That just doesn't sit right with me, but I imagine it probably makes the local bar owners pretty happy, since that's the only place the plebeians are going to be able to watch the games...

I always thought Archie Manning was one of the best quarterbacks.

Wouldn't know, but in the opening games of AL divisional play, the Royals squeaked by the Angels 3-2 winning with a leadoff solo shot by Mike Moustakas in the 11th, and the Orioles pummeled the Tigers 12-3. The game was close through seven and a half (4-3 Baltimore) but the O's blew it open with a eight run rally in the bottom of the eighth.
Who had the best sousaphone marching band? Isn't that how it's decided?

And me being of the same populist streak will just note that the game started at 3:07 Eastern time, which is about noon on the West Coast, which happens to be where San Francisco sits. How is the typical fan who -- to be able to afford the occasional game ticket and super cable package -- has a job supposed to watch a game at 3:07 (D.C. time) let alone 12:07 (SF time)?

Final score game one...

Giants 3, Nationals 2...

It was a helluva long game for 3-2 nine inning contest; a little over four hours...

The unusual length of the game can be explained by the fact that the Giants stranded 9 (eight who reached on hits, and one walk) and the Nats stranded 8 (four of which were walks). Also, after both starters completed the first four innings a total of eight relievers, (four for each team ) came on for the last five...

It was a good, hard fought contest. Towards the end of the game, one of the announcers reported a really impressive statistic; in post-season play, the Giants are 73-1 when they've had a lead going into the eighth inning...

And that one loss was in 1911...

Meade is likely the only here who remembers seeing the Giants greatest pitcher, Christy Mathewson, give up that one.

I regret not recalling it. I was of course too busy working to promote the recently created NCAA (1910) which, in an earlier guise, had adopted my game of peach-basket, created by me in 1862, and kept changing my rules - for example, restricting a team to five members instead of any number less than thirty. Doubt me? Here's proof (an extant ms. which fails to mention Jesus):
MARCH MEADENESS

To Mrs. George G. Meade
CAMP PIERPONT, VA., March 1, 1862.

Yesterday was a very disagreeable day, extremely cold, with a very high wind, and blustering weather. I was obliged to expose myself, standing in the wind from 9 in the morning till 5 in the afternoon, mustering the several regiments of my brigade.

We are all in the dark as to where or in what direction we march. I surmise (this is entre nous) that a force will be crossed below Alexandria, while Banks threatens Winchester and we advance on Centreville. If we can once get in their rear, I think we will have a comparatively easy victory, and we have so large a force that I do not see any difficulty in effecting this operation.

The morale of the men is superior to that of the rebel army, which remains in positions that are quite untenable in face of our overwhelming resources of men and materiel. Despite the grimness of the elements, our forces retain a cheerful disposition, though with overmuch gambling at cards and rather less thankfulness to our Maker than is appropriate. Your ears would blush to hear some of the language with which they chafe each other.

This very morning a group of cavalry from New York passed nearby, and was treated to the usual disdain with which our infantry regards the beau sabreurs. “Come out from under those hats!” they shouted, “we can see your legs a-dangling down!”, and other less salubrious comments. I had to send Kuhn to prevent fisticuffs, but such was the animosity of the rivals, that it was necessary to divert them into less warlike competition.

Since the men have become fond of a game I invented called “peach basket”, I had each group form teams representing New York and Pennsylvania. The object of the game is to throw a gutta percha ball through a peach basket with the bottom removed, which is nailed high in a tree. In no time, the men largely forgot their hostility and entered into the full spirit of healthful exercise. One cavalryman caused great hilarity when he wrapped a towel around his head, and used some half-burnt sticks from last night’s fires to blacken his face and hands. He solemnly declared that he was a wizard from Araby, by name Kowell Abdul Jabar, which no amount of infantry could overwhelm. Despite this amusing performance, the man played the game most indifferently and retired in the early minutes, claiming injury.

I am proud to tell you that after an hour of exertion, my men outscored the cavalry by 22 peach baskets to 17.
Regrettably, after the troopers rode off, some of our soldiers discovered that valuables had dislodged from their jackets, which they had carelessly cast aside during the game. Kuhn and I were puzzled that a diligent search of the ground yielded not so much as a penny piece.

However, I noted that these jackets were much smudged by charcoal, indicating too close a proximity to the campfires in these cold nights. I had Kuhn publish an order for the men to maintain a distance of 6 feet from any blaze, as the expense of replacing burned uniforms is an imposition upon government, to be recouped by subtraction from their pay.

My regret in life was the failure to quash rounders and the misnamed "football", a hideous adaptation of the most popular team sport in the world, cricket. (Note to editor: are you quite sure about that?)
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

A little over two hours ago, the Nats were one out away from evening the series to one a piece...

Now, five hours after the start of the game, we're headed to the top of the 15th....
