Post by Guinevere »

Car magnate Ernie Boch Jr. has invited Donald Trump to “come on down.”

On Aug. 28, the Republican presidential hopeful will be the featured guest at a political fund-raiser hosted and organized by Boch at his Norwood mansion.

“I believe that if you are interested in exploring a bit more about who Mr. Trump is, then seeing him up close and personal is the best way to do it,” said Boch, the owner of Boch Enterprises. “I think that it’s a good opportunity to come and hear him speak.”

A spokesperson from Trump’s camp confirmed that the real estate mogul would attend the event.

“Ernie’s Summer Bash,” a three-hour fund-raiser that will feature live music and a speech by Trump, is a private event. Those who were lucky enough to receive an invitation from Boch will need to pay $100 to get in the door and hear what Trump has to say.

Boch said he’s not necessarily throwing his weight behind the presidential contender, who last week stole the spotlight during the most-watched primary debate in history. But Boch is intrigued by Trump, an unabashed businessman who is making a controversial dash for the White House.

“What attracts me to Mr. Trump is that he is not a politician and that he doesn’t speak like a politician. And to me, that’s refreshing,” said Boch.

When asked about his thoughts on Trump’s recent remarks and clash with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, Boch admitted that the presidential candidate can be a “polarizing” figure.

“Do I agree with everything he said at the debate? Absolutely not. But he is who he is,” said Boch, a registered Republican. “I’m not telling people who to vote for. I’m just here to bring people together to listen to him talk and let them decide on their own.”

Trump isn’t the first Republican candidate that Boch has hosted a fundraiser for. Boch once supported former Gov. Mitt Romney during a gubernatorial race.

For Boch, the summer bash will be all about educating voters.

“Whether you are for him or against him, you will be more educated in your decision for who to vote for after hearing him speak,” Boch said. “Is he a loose cannon? Maybe a little. But who hasn’t been a loose cannon in their life? That’s the appeal.
From Today's Globe. This is almost my backyard and a Town I work in a lot. And Boch is a serious businessman, worth a lot of money with a string of successful businesses, not a crazy person. I really do hope this is just curiousity, and capitalizing on Trump's profile for his charity (unclear where the money raised is going - to Trump or the charity). If not, the end is near, indeed :loon :loon :loon

(If I could finagle an invite, I'd think long and hard about going)

The longer Trump stays in the race the more I'm going to suspect Douglas Addams was right about the purpose of the presidency.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

TRUMP IS A FREAK SHOW

Post by RayThom »

The Donald reminds me of the old time traveling carny with its odd midway attractions. Everyone wanted to see the tattooed, bearded, fat lady, but no one ever wanted to date her -- usually leaving the tent a bit disgusted, or at least saddened by the spectacle. Trump is this kind of character. He has a very thin veneer that will quickly erode exposing his rough puppet head... knots and all.

Once the "educated" voters (I still believe they're out there) realizes that the Trumpster (which rhymes with dumpster) has no meaningful political ideology with its subsequent me-me-me, unsustainable bluster and bloviation, the electoral process will "normalize" and regain a modicum of dignity that we all expect. Until then we're getting what we deserve -- especially the rag-tag, Republican party.

Regarding my freak show analogy, any Walmart south of the Mason-Dixon Line on any given Saturday night now offers the same show for free. Donald Trump will soon be relegated to these venues and even the shoppers will pass him by, seeing him as nothing special.

Only 453 Day & 13 Hours to go.

God bless America.

(OK, this thread is done. On to a new one.)

Interesting take on Trump's strategy from Rachel Maddow on this clip from the Tonight Show:

Start paying very close attention around the 3:30 mark:
"It's actually genius. I don't think he's a dumb guy. I don't think he is playing a dumb game here. What he's doing with that is genius. If he was going to say at that debate 'No, no, no I'll never run as an independent; I'll only run as a Republican,' he loses all his leverage. Then he's just one of the other Republicans. But if he says 'No, you guys be nice to me or I'm going to jump in as an independent thereby guaranteeing Hillary Clinton will be the next President.' ...what does that mean? That means if he doesn't do that the Republicans owe him forever. And if he does do that Hillary Clinton becomes President and she owes him forever."
. . . . . :o

ETA: also some very interesting thoughts earlier in the clip re whether Trump actually wants to be POTUS.

econo--and they'll pay that debt they supposedly owe to Trump because of what? To prevent him from running/not running again in 2020? She's giving him way too much credit. Genius.

Actually, I disagree with that part of Maddow's comments (that Hillary will owe Trump forever if he runs a separate 3rd-party campaign)...though I do think that there might be some modest expectation on his part that he might be able to get a favor or two out Hillary if he runs separately and she wins. It's obvious from watching the clip that this was an off-the-top-of-her-head prediction that Maddow hadn't really put a lot of thought into. But as I said, it's an interesting take.

And I think her earlier comments--about Trump's lifestyle of making a lot of money from a job that doesn't take a lot of time or effort (indicating that he probably doesn't really want such a difficult, time-consuming, stressful job as POTUS)--are right on. (I guess that might lend some credence to the Manchurian Candidate theory..? ;) )

Heavens above - am I the only one to know that Madcow Maddow was making a JOKE - that Hilary will owe Trump forever? (A pretty good one actually)

Do you have to be so consistently disrespectful to women with whom you apparently disagree politically. It's rather tiresome.

oh my goodness.

madcow is mine. I m flattered.

I know that she pronounces her name mad-o, not mad- ow, but that makes it even funnier , imho.

how many derogatory terms has trump been called here, you man-haters.....

and madcow refers to her, and her viewers, and their severely damaged brains, not their bodies.....

I don't see her very much, so if the consensus is that was a joke, I won't dispute it--but even accepting MEade's assessment that it was a good joke, it was delivered poorly.

ok, the thing is, I am pretty good at discerning whether or not someone is a big ol liar or not, and I have been watching trump s speeches and interviews closely. I just haven t had my liar radar go off yet. I keep waiting, but no feelings of being lied to , yet.

a great deal of exaggeration , a little bullshit, a lot of asking for twice as much as he will settle for, many admissions of prior involvement with soft core corruption, a lot of changed positions (which isn t necessarily a bad thing. we want our leaders to abandon poor policies, right?)

could it be that trump is actually doing what he thinks is right for America?

The problem is he can't explain how he is going to do anything. He was asked today how he will accomplish sending all of the illegal aliens back where they came from and get the Mexican government to pay for a wall on the border.

His response was, "Management."

Oh I see.... I should probably vote for him now.

I really don t doubt his executive skills. he does make deals and deal with wealthy powerful people every day in business and private life.

I don t doubt that he will appoint talented or hire people without much regard to party affiliation.

I don t doubt that he will fire people who don t do their job well.

I d better stop now.

the scary thing is is that I could say more positive things about him.

I do fear that he is not genuine, which is the most important thing to know about someone. once you know if they are genuine or not, you can make a decision on whether or not their ideas are worth considering. if I believe a candidate or official lies about their true beliefs, then I can t give credence to those views

oh my. trump just took questions from the press in iowa, live on CNN.

that Jorge ramos guy from Univision was being a jerk and trump had him thrown out, so then he took questions about it and invited the guy back in. about 10 minutes later the guy returned and trump took like 5 questions from him and just destroyed him.

brilliant. he threw the guy out for breaking decorum, then let him back in when he acted right . just like his immigration proposal....

trump takes all questions. I like that.

He is bringing an energy to the otherwise dull race.
The republicans are doing what they can to crush him, but right now he is a force.
This race has third party written all over it.
But it's still early so we will have to wait and see.

I do have to say I am more interested in this presidential race than I have been in years. I usually concentrate on local and area (county/state) races as my presidential vote doesn't mean much here in NY as it's lock step for dems (with one exception way back when  ).
