Nothing against The Mets, it's been a while since they won a World Series title...(1986) they're certainly entitled...

But here's a picture of the most recent Chicago Cubs World Series Championship team:

Now that's what I call "due"... :ok 8-)

To really get a perspective on the "dry spell" the Cubs have had:

The last time the Cubs won the World Series:

The President's name was Roosevelt...

Not Franklin; Teddy....

(But that's not really as bad as it sounds... they did make it to play in the World Series as recently as 70 years ago, in 1945...well okay, maybe it really is as bad as it sounds... :? )

Wilbur and Orville Wright had taken off from Kitty Hawk just five years earlier...

Richard Nixon wouldn't be born for another five years...

Albert Einstein was working in a patent office...

The sinking of The Titanic was four years in the future...

Charlie Chaplin was six years away from making his first film short for Keystone Films...

Wyatt Earp was still alive, and would be for another 19 years...

George Herman Ruth was 13 years old, and wouldn't start playing in the Major Leagues for another six years...

I suspect that if the Cubs actually do clinch the NL pennant, even hard-core White Sox fans--a.k.a. the entire South Side of Chicago (the baddest part of town)--will be rooting for them to go all the way...and I'll be one of them.

Why not? It'd be quite a novelty, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

I think I've mentioned before that my father was a life-long White Sox fan; the Sox won the World Series in the year before he was born...and the next time they won the World Series was 17 years after he died. (Though he did at least see them play in the World Series once, against the LA Dodgers, in 1959. The last time the Cubs have even played in the World Series was the year before I was born.)

Now please lose...
Not this past weekend. :nana
The Black Knight and Thor did their jobs. Murphy is going for MVP. He does have free agency coming up.
I would root for the Cubs if it wasn't the Mets they were playing.
I'm enjoying the ride as I did in 86 and 00 (although the ending in 00 sucked twice, Mets lost and it was to the Yankees)

The Mets swept them. Murphy is a very odd force of nature. As a 2nd baseman he's great hitter. As one writer put it "he goes after balls that a more self-aware fielder would leave to others."

Could be a fun WS with him in it.

:shrug Time for this song again...

True story: Steve Goodman's ashes were scattered in Wrigley Field...so that he can spend eternity lying there, waiting for that ever-expected, never-experienced World Series win...
