I was watching one of the football games on TV yesterday and a Grey Goose commercial came on and I actually started to get sick to my stomach watching the liquor being poured.

I am not on the beam correctly today. Don't know why. I did my usual routine this morning. Prayed, meditated, reached out to the energy of the universe. Went and redid it at lunch. Still not feeling "correct". I'll deal with it with some help from the life force/higher power.
If I offend anyone please forgive me. I'll be better soon.

... it might be a good thing to check-in with your PCP -- sooner than later. As you know, there are many physiological changes associated with alcohol cessation -- months and years after your final taste. You need to cover all your bases. Hey, it can't hurt, right? Good luck.

I have a really bad head cold now. Stayed home from work today. Maybe that is what I was feeling.
Recovery wise I felt fine after going to a meeting last night. Then I started getting congested and this morning woke up with my head pounding and having to blow my nose every 30sec.
Going to take a nap now.

All the best to your niece bigskygal. I am sure people there told her but here goes, get a sponsor, get a home group, get a commitment and work the steps.
Too many people refer to the things we must do (aka the steps) as suggestions. If we (addicts/alcoholics) are to live, they are "must do's".
I am praying for her.

From my understanding, the other thing that is important is to go to meetings often; many times in family and drug court I have seen the judge use the standard of 100 meetings in 100 days as evidence of commitment. I can't argue with that.

90 in 90 is the mantra as it usually takes 90 of anything to become "habit". But of course only going to meetings will not make a sober person. The work needs to be done. And there are plenty of people who go there just to "impress" the law that they are "serious". Then as soon as they are off probabtion they are back to their old ways.
Sad but true.

That is true oldr; hopefully if they attend enough some of it will get through, but many times it doesn't (or they just don't want to do the work needed to stop). I've seen it work sometimes (the latest was a baby born addicted to heroin who was returned to her now clean mother after about a year), but far too many times it fails. And while incarceration seems like a horrible thing, to me there's nothing more traumatic than seeing a child removed from his/her parent(s).

Of course seeing a child abused because of the neglect or actions of a parent or parents is worse, but I think removal, however necessary and/or justified, is one of the most traumatic things the state can do to both the child and the parent. It is sadly necessary at times, but that doesn't make it any easier.

I see many sides of that coin Big RR. Parents (moms and dads) doing all they can staying straight, putting in the work, staying sober in an effort to get their kids back. Or even to just have a relationship with them. You can tell they are sincere in the way they accept the process and what that entails knowing the outcome will be good when it does come. My heart goes out to them and wish things would happen for them sooner.

Then there are those who are only coming in order to keep/get back their kids, but not doing the work, complaining how CPS is making them jump through hoops, having to pee in a cup, go to meetings, blah blah blah. We try and get them to wise up but it rarely works.

I thank my higher power every day I did not lose my family and friends. Life is a gift, a blessing, and I cherish each day whether good, bad or ugly.
