For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

No, but it does involve a plane...

If nobody gets it by later today, I'll give the answer and pick another one.

An airplane... why didn't you say so? I would never have thought of a movie with a plane in it.

No, but you're getting closer...

It involves a plane that goes down and people being stranded...

Ooh! "The Last Flight of Noah's Ark".

(no, that doesn't fit- wasn't remade, didn't get any award nominations. Did destroy a bunch of vintage planes, though)

Older movie (per the clues, released prior to '71).  Five major Hollywood stars in various roles, and nominated for two Oscars.  Viewing the movie "will make you extremely thirsty".  They did a shitty remake of it — although that's hardly unusual, so that ain't really much of a clue.  It involved a plane that goes down and people are stranded.  And the second and third quotes speak about someone's drunkenness and poor navigation skills.

By George, I think I've got it!

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

That was going to be my guess too, after all those clues. Alas, three hours late and a dollar short. I think you got it too BB.

IIRC the passengers on the rebuilt Phoenix were riding on the top of the wing. That position would spoil any lift the wing would otherwise have created. Hollywood AND Huffy should never design an airplane.

The five "famous Hollywood stars" are listed in Bill's response:

Stewart, Attenborough, Finch, Borgnine and Kennedy...

(If there's anyone here who hasn't heard of any of them, I would strongly advise not making that fact public... 8-) )

But the real co-star of this classic, (even more so than Attenborough) was the German born actor Hardy Kruger...(Who played the foil to Stewart in this flick, as he did in The Secret of Santa Vittoria with Anthony Quinn...)

From the mid-sixties to the late 80s, Hardy Kruger was the Hollywood go-to-guy in numerous films whenever there was an "arrogant German Aryan-looking type" needed...

Image

I think he's badly underrated as an actor, based on his performance in The Secret Of Santa Vittoria and especially the performance he delivered in The Flight Of The Phoenix (I think he delivered an Oscar quality Best Supporting Actor performance as Heinrich Dorfmann)

But he got so type-cast as the Hollywood version of the archetypal German officer, that he was never offered parts that would have more fully explored his dramatic range (that he showed the potential for in Flight Of The Phoenix) or his deadpan comedic talents (that he demonstrated in The Secret Of Santa Vittoria)

He last appeared in a major production as Irwin Rommel in the mini-series War and Remembrance in 1989, but he's still with us...

[/end Hardy Kruger digression]

For anyone who likes well cast, well written, good quality drama who has not seen this film, I highly recommend it...(You can rent it through Xfinity On Demand, and Youtube, and several Roku services for $2.99...I can think of a lot worse things you could spend three bucks on...)

Jim Bob says check it out...

One comment about the lousy remake...

It had one silver lining...

Hugh Laurie was in it, and he did his screen test for House while the movie was being filmed...

He did the screen test with a scruffy, needs-a-shave look (because it was required for the movie) which the TV show producers later said helped convince them that he was the right pick to play Gregory House...

I'm not trying to tell you not to be afraid.  Fear is normal.  But stop worrying about it and about yourselves.  Stop making plans.  Forget about going home.  Consider yourselves already dead.  Once you accept that idea, it won't be so tough.

Ed "Stewpot" Stewart, David Attenborough, Argus Filch, what's his face Bourgnine, Jack Kennedy.
