A Women Vote Trump event took place on Monday at the start of the Republican National Convention. Featured speakers at the event included Ann Stone and, of course, the black women who have been stumping for Trump all along, Diamond and Silk. The event was such a success that a whopping 17 people showed up.

What little I've been able to stomach listening to has been just shameful. The repeated refrain tonight is, 'Americans are more afraid for their safety than they have ever been'. If that's true, then Americans don't respect our top cops, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who carefully track crime and whose statistics show that we are safer today in this country than we have been in decades. Crime is at an all-time low. 'Make America Safe Again'? The pandering to fear is revolting. Rudy Giuliani's speech was the most revolting.

I've never thought much of the Republican party, but this is so gross as to make me almost feel sympathy for rational Republicans. Except your party earned this week by virtue of 20+ years of vile hate-mongering. Enjoy the monster of your creation - whether your participation was active, or merely apathetic, you reap what you sow.

An entire paragraph of her speech was lifted almost word-for-word from Michelle Obama‘s 2008 DNC speech.

The Trump team statement, attributed to senior communications advisor Jason Miller, makes note of none of this (emphasis added):

“In writing her beautiful speech, Melania’s team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking. Melania’s immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success.

I have no doubt that the absurd complete denial in Position II came directly on the instructions of John Miller...

They completely destroyed any "good" they could have gotten out of Day One of the convention with this cluster fuck, and now it will dominate the news for Day Two...

Sooner or later even Trump is going to realize this it is not going to fly, and somebody's head is going to roll....
