Re: The Muscovite Candidate
You know, this is bullshit. NPR totally jumped the shark this afternoon.
First up - Bill Clinton
They got into a real serious discussion because Bill made the light-hearted remark (and they didn't get it) that you could leave Hillary in a trouble spot for 30 days and when you came back, why she'd have made things better. That was a nice thing to say
So they had an analysis of whether Hillary (as President) could actually solve the Syrian crisis in 30 days! And they concluded that she could not! Idiots!
Second Up - Trump
They played his sound bite. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”
They then proclaimed (and continued to do so in news updates) the Democrat party line that Trump was calling upon a foreign government to hack into US national security. They had some former Ambassador to Russia come on and fulminate about it. Oh Trump was mixing up the separate server story with the wikileaks one and calling on Russia to hack some more. He was obviously evil for requesting such hacking.
He requested nothing. It was a dumb joke for crying out loud. We all know that Hillary's minyuns deleted 30,000 emails and Trump was making a joke that maybe the Russians could find them
NPR utterly dull on both - and I call liars on anyone who says otherwise

Re: The Muscovite Candidate
I'm so tired of hearing about those damned deleted emails!!
As a public official and attorney who routinely guided other public officials in responding to FOIA requests for emails, here's how it is:
She deleted emails in the course of her work, as many, many public officials do. It's not best practice, but almost nobody engages in best practice, because government at ALL levels fails to instruct officials at ALL levels on how to run their stupid Outlook archiving function (or whatever program's archive function).
It's really THAT innocent, which is EXACTLY why the FBI - all 27 agents who worked the case AND Director Comey - failed to find any INTENT to do ANYTHING nefarious.
The 30,000 emails that she didn't turn over contained personal content and NOT work content; it's a standard and acceptable practice to have your legal team review and filter out strictly personal emails from public information emails when responding to a FOIA request.
Getoveritalready!!

You are, how do you think the sane word feels?!?!??

http://time.com/4426783/paul-ryan-repub ... mp-russia/Speaker Paul Ryan Calls on ‘Global Menace’ Russia to ‘Stay Out of This Election’
GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan and other Republicans on Wednesday denounced Russia’s potential involvement in the U.S. presidential election without specifically criticizing GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who earlier called on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.
“Russia is a global menace led by a devious thug. Putin should stay out of this election,” said Brendan Buck, spokesman for Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, in an email.
Trump’s press conference on Wednesday morning came amid an FBI investigation into a hack of Democratic National Committee files by the Russian government.
“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump said at the press conference in Doral, Florida. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let’s see if that happens.”
I saw in another article that Trump has also said he would consider recognizing Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea....
The position that Ryan is taking is the one that rightfully should be the unequivocal position of the Republican Party. The fact that we have a nominee for POTUS that doesn't embrace that position is truly mind bending...
I have to thank Drumpf for one thing...
Hardly a day goes by that he doesn't do or say something (usually multiple somethings) to try to make me feel better about my decision to vote for Hillary...
I'm sorry, but that would be wrong:The 30,000 emails that she didn't turn over contained personal content and NOT work content
https://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press ... ail-systemThe FBI also discovered several thousand work-related e-mails that were not in the group of 30,000 that were returned by Secretary Clinton to State in 2014. We found those additional e-mails in a variety of ways. Some had been deleted over the years and we found traces of them on devices that supported or were connected to the private e-mail domain. Others we found by reviewing the archived government e-mail accounts of people who had been government employees at the same time as Secretary Clinton, including high-ranking officials at other agencies, people with whom a Secretary of State might naturally correspond.
This helped us recover work-related e-mails that were not among the 30,000 produced to State. Still others we recovered from the laborious review of the millions of e-mail fragments dumped into the slack space of the server decommissioned in 2013.
With respect to the thousands of e-mails we found that were not among those produced to State, agencies have concluded that three of those were classified at the time they were sent or received, one at the Secret level and two at the Confidential level. There were no additional Top Secret e-mails found. Finally, none of those we found have since been “up-classified.”
Yet another false claim made by Hillary Clinton...
Small wonder that nearly 70% of the American people do not consider her to be honest and trustworthy...

Re: The Muscovite Candidate
Yesterday I heard an interesting comment from some expert on current national politics.
They reminded the interviewer of all the bad things that the Clintons have been connected with over their many years in politics. It goes clear back to Bill's first term as Arkansas governor when he was said to conspire with the CIA to use state Natl Guard air bases to bring in drugs from central america to finance the CIA efforts against Castro and other leftist leaders in the western hemisphere. The NY Times financed an investigative team based in Kansas City to dig up financial corruption by the Clintons, long before he was running for president.
Right up to this last 30 days when the FBI report on the emails officially concluded:
"As a result, although the Department of Justice makes final decisions on matters like this, we are expressing to Justice our view that no charges are appropriate in this case."
The expert concluded. All of these 'scandals' came to nothing. There was no fire under the smoke. But you talk to the ordinary people about WHY they don't trust Hillary, and they come up with vague words, not anything they can put their finger on.
My own conclusion is that yes, there has been no fire. Yes, inspite of the many attempts by the opposition to burn her, they have not managed to do it.
BUT all that smoke with no substance has managed, as a total, long term effect, to leave a stain. No structural damage, but terrible cosmetics. Too many voters just depend on the cosmetics.

That story about Clinton, a governor, conspiring with the CIA is entirely new and wholly unbelieveable.Burning Petard wrote:Yesterday I heard an interesting comment from some expert on current national politics.

LJ, I believe I said that there were work related emails that had been deleted in the course of every day work; I'm very familiar with Comey's findings and don't require your spin to understand them - like Comey, I'm a former prosecutor with a good understanding of criminal law.

Re: The Muscovite Candidate
Speaking of 'read a book' Garrison Kiellor had an essay in the Washington Post recently about how he feels to be a loser, and what it would mean to have the Donald as president.
Toward the end, he asked the reader to imagine what the Presidential Library would look like, filled with Gold Chairs and slot machines.
I imagined wall after wall covered with pictures of the Donald, taken from the covers of print publications. And miles of books shelves of books with Trump listed on the cover as author, which books the Donald never wrote nor even read.
But prominently displayed needs to be the tv set on which he watched the shows that taught him all about the military. No, that should go to the Smithsonian.

Shows like "Combat!", "M*A*S*H", "Hogan's Heroes", "McHale's Navy", and "Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.", no doubt.Burning Petard wrote:But prominently displayed needs to be the tv set on which he watched the shows that taught him all about the military.
Although we mustn't forget that his old man, as a disciplinary measure, sent him off to a military academy for his high-school years; Drumpf carries on about that like he had received an appointment to West Point or Annapolis.
