Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016
Update
It has come to my attention that my ability to administer the The 4th Annual Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016 has been criticized and/or questioned.

Let me say this about that: My education consists of numerous citations and recognition for too many accomplishments to mention. I've been in rooms with scholars, uneducated homeless people and people much smarter than other people. I've spoken to multi-lingual men and women and mingled with single-lingual citizens and non-citizens.

Inasmuch as, I've realized an oversight may have been overlooked regarding the eligibility of AndrewD for The 4th Annual Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016. Although he is deserving of much recognition for his past participation here at Plan B, it is with a heavy heart that I must disallow his nomination.

Any further offhanded critical comments regarding my proficiency should continue to be directed to me onhandedly and I will respond perfunctorily in kind.

That's all for now.

To the Committee:

It's so true -- only the good die young. Maybe you could create a Peebies 'In Memoriam' video with a montage with all past members who died, and run it prior to your presentation of the awards to all the 2016 winners who stubbornly remain on this side of the sod.

Hey, it's only a thought... use you own excretion.

I don't think so.
You've accomplished enough this year.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

While their certainly seems to be a bit of that, 8-) I have to defend Joe on this "voting for groups" thing...

I don't have any strong feelings about it, (just so long as if you cast your vote for some "group" you're only allowed to cast one vote for the "group" you designate just as though they were an individual person; if you could stack all three of your votes for the "group" that would give the "group" an unfair numerical advantage. They would have to be treated like an individual) but I don't believe it's ever been done before.

Also, if we're going to be able to vote for a "group" like "The Admins" shouldn't people also be able to vote for a "group" like "All the Posters Over 70" or "The Hot Lawyer Chicks"? 8-)
There is a distinct difference between the "Admins" group and the "Hot lawyer chicks" group -- which is that the Admins work behind the scenes and that work is largely impossible to separate out from one and other. In contrast, the Hot lawyer chicks all contribute in the public space, and its relatively simple to distinguish the contributes of one from the others.

And yes, treat the group like a person for vote-counting purposes.

Finally, so what if it hasn't been done before. It's not like we're drafting the Constitution here. And even that gets amended from time to time.....

Joe, in your copious free time, could you please post a tally of what you understand the current vote totals to be?

With all the "rulings" and disallowed votes, (I guess anyone who voted for Andrew has another vote to cast) I can't even hazard a guess as to what the standings are currently...(of course if we'd had the poll list, we'd only need an update for those who weren't among the 10 listed in the poll, because everyone could see all the other votes...just sayin'... 8-) )

You're forgetting that people can change their votes... ;)

A note to those voting for wes:

Far be it from me to discourage anyone from voting for another poster, but I think it's worth pointing out that if wes actually wins it's likely to encourage him to post more...

So voting for wes probably means voting for more wes posts...

More multiple one sentence posts, more non sequitur YouTube posts, etc....

But y'all go right ahead... 8-)

ETA:
I believe that the lack of involvement is not because of the new process, it is because all of our regular posters simply have not been here. That's my official opinion.
Well I guess we'll now be able to put that official opinion to the test...

In that regard, I would note that as of now not one single additional vote has been cast since the deadline was extended yesterday...(In fact with the disallowed votes for Andrew, we're actually going backwards in the number of votes...)

I realize that you had only the best of intentions in mind when you decided on this new process....

You wanted to make it as equitable and fair as possible by not singling out 10 people on a published list, when everyone was eligible...

But unfortunately, The Law Of Unintended Consequences is one cold-hearted bitch... 8-)

As a previous (and well-deserved) winner of this Peebie thing, may I offer a word of advice to the potential winner for 2017?

Whatever Joe says in a PM, do NOT (do NOT) go to your bank and take out a large loan in the expectation of receiving a prize sufficient to pay back the loan and make a small profit.

.... and based on a tip from he-who-must-not-be-named but has more than one w in his name, the surprise horse in this race is one, Detrump. But I don't see any posts from that name?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Interesting. I was promised a cheque, but haven't received it yet....

Sigh. They aren't votes, they are nominations. I've voted for no one. I've made three nominations.

It's been deposited in your account, but you have to send 25% for taxes back to Joe. Check with the bank, they'll tell you it cleared (whether it did or not).

Well, I suppose you can call it that if you want to, but it seems more like a first round of voting to select finalists, and then a second round to select the winner to me...

In a sense, every eligible poster is already "nominated". What we're doing now is like voting in an open primary, with the top five vote getters then going on to a runoff vote...

I can't recall ever commenting on it at all, and have certainly never called it silly. But you might ask yourself why you are so concerned about what I think about it.

Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016
Update
Lord Jim wrote:Joe, in your copious free time, could you please post a tally of what you understand the current vote totals to be?
The current standing in the Plan B Person of the Year Award - for 2016 nomination process is as follows:

Wesw - 5
Gob - 3
Lord Jim - 3
Joe Guy - 3
All other nominees - 1 or 2

Note side - Meade needs to choose a third candidate to replace his group nomination. If no action is taken, there can be no reaction, therefore, whatever I've stated in regards to rules earlier in this process - with the exception of things I've stated and later changed but reserve the right to change again if deemed changeworthy by me - still stands.

Do I make myself clearly?
I believe that the lack of involvement is not because of the new process, it is because all of our regular posters simply have not been here. That's my official opinion.

The official Plan B Person of the Year Award committee's stance on this issue is - It is decidedly so.

The fact that you can't recall commenting on it proves that you thought so little of the Plan B Person of the Year Award that you can't remember commenting on it.

I am "so concerned" about your thoughts on the Plan B Person of the Year Award because you are a long standing member and your thoughts are worthy of concern. I feel a special bond with you since I am also of Italian heritage. You have been a strong presence here and I want you to know that your opinions are very important to me.

Don't forget that you have until Friday the 13th 12PM PST to nominate me.

Thank you.

Inasmuch as my previous nomination was ruled non-starter, I now nominate Joe Guy. The recent national elections in the USofA revealed the fundamental principal of modern democracy in our global village.

He who counts the votes always wins, and if you cannot count them, control who does them.

No, it shows that I gave it little thought, not that I thought little of it. I'm sure you are bright enough to know the difference. And I never called it silly.
