I was just about to post about this latest outrage:

Trump just made an unprecedented, 'radical' change to the National Security Council

President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum Saturday that removed the nation's top military and intelligence advisers as regular attendees of the National Security Council's Principals Committee, the interagency forum that deals with policy issues affecting national security.

The executive measure established Trump's chief strategist, Steve Bannon, as a regular attendee, whereas the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence will be allowed to participate only "where issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise are to be discussed."

"The appointment of Mr. Bannon is something which is a radical departure from any National Security Council in history," Republican Sen. John McCain, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

"The one person who is indispensable would be the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in my view," McCain added. "So it's of concern, this 'reorganization.'"

John Bellinger, an adjunct senior fellow in International and National Security Law at the Council on Foreign Relations and former legal adviser to the National Security Council, wrote on Saturday that the change was "unusual."

"In the Bush administration, Karl Rove would not attend NSC meetings," Bellinger said. "According to former Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, President Bush did not want to appear, especially to the military, to insert domestic politics into national security decision-making."[Obviously not a concern for the Drumpf]

With his permanent seat at the NSC meetings, Bannon has been elevated above the director of the CIA, Mike Pompeo, who was not offered an open invitation.

"The CIA Director is typically invited to NSC and Principals Committee meetings," Bellinger said, though he added that President Barack Obama's list of invitees to such meetings did not include the CIA director.

It's become increasingly apparent since the inauguration (starting with that horrendous inaugural address) that the number one shot caller for shaping the tone and agenda of this White House is the alt-right white nationalist darling, Steve Bannon.

His fingerprints can be seen on just about everything coming out from this administration, big and small. (From large impactful decisions like this thinly veiled Muslim ban, to symbolic ones like the inexplicable failure to even mention the Jews in the Holocaust Remembrance Day proclamation... )

Bannon is a slimeball, but he is a very bright slimeball....

He's got a master's degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, and an MBA with honors from Harvard....

He spent several years as a naval officer and then made mucho bucks as a hedge fund manager with Goldman Sachs...

That is not the resume of a stupid man...


My suspicion is that he targeted Trump to ingratiate himself to, and that he has become extremely influential with him by feeding his voracious ego, and reinforcing his most negative impulses and basest instincts...

Like his sadistic delight in tormenting the powerless, and his obsessive hatred of the press...

In other words, Bannon understands exactly what to do to manipulate Trump , and he does it very well...

Why would he want advice from the intelligence services--he has access to alternative facts.

Donald Trump has been in office for one week, but a new Quinnipiac University poll has found that former President Obama has vaulted into a tie with Ronald Reagan as the best president of the last 70 years.

I agree.  Here's a chance for many up-and-coming cartoonists to make a name for themselves, as Trump is going to single-handedly usher in the New Golden Age of Political Cartooning for the 21st Century ... and I for one am going to thoroughly enjoy every one of them.  I just hope that Garry Trudeau will be allowed free rein by his syndicate; if he is, "Doonesbury" will enjoy a wave of popularity it hasn't seen since the days of VietNam, Nixon, and Watergate.
