Frank Patterson, the President of Lake Keowee Broadcasting Group told WYFF News 4 that Sunny 107.9 WFBS, in Salem, was hacked around 8:10 p.m. and a voice repeated "F--- you Donald Trump" over and over for about 10 minutes.
He said hackers had to use multiple passwords to get into the system.
Patterson said the internet protocol addresses of the hackers were tracked to Russia and Taiwan.

So now the Russians don't like that they aided in getting Trump elected?
Re: WKRP?
My cousin bought a license for an IP randomizer so he could watch videos (pirated,I think) that his cable/internet provider would otherwise block.
So I guess this is common, I've read online that I could do the same in order to access the much-coveted BBC iplayer, which isn't accessible to USA IP addresses.
Not sure how accurate IP address IDs are? I'm sure the NSA has better tools to dig deeper, but I doubt this station does.

It used to be easy to "hack" the old cable boxes in the late 70's early 80's. Jerrold boxes IIRC. Just turn a variable capacitor until the channel you wanted came in.
Later they use to invert the sync signal on channels you didn't pay for. An analog inverter circuit was all that was needed.
Now, with mpeg encoding going on, i am sure they put some kind of lock in the data packets that you only get the key for when you subscribe. Don't see how an IP randomizer would fix that, but I am no internet security expert.

I didn't mean to be unclear, but it's not the cable box at issue - it's the internet service which is separate but part of the package. If you stream 'illegal' content your provider can track that unless you employ an IP randomizer.

I wonder if that would also work to give me unlimited access to the responsible journalism (NYT, WashPo, Globe) which I crave but cannot afford?
