All this Christmas shit is really putting me in the mood.

A little more dialogue since I think this could be one not a lot of people have seen:

Kid: Yeah.
A: Well, uh. I'm an angel. A Christmas angel.
Kid: Oh, no you're not. Because my dad told me you can't see angels. They're invisible.
A: Well, they're invisible sometimes, but sometimes they have to show up.

And keep in mind, this is from a guy dressed in dirty clothes and looking like Chester the Child Molester; and the kid goes with him and keeps their little "secret". Good job Disney.

Sadly, no.

If no one gets it by noon I'll pass my turn to the first person who says they want it (because I am only going to be online intermittently for the next 2-3 days) and I'll identify this film.

But a couple of more clues:

The movie starred Mary Steenburgen, Harry Dean Stanton, Arthur Hill, and Sarah Polley, among others. The cast was pretty solid.

It was directed by Phillip Borsos (who directed the critically acclaimed movie The Gray Fox), who also collaborated on the writing. So ditto for the direction/writing.

While it was not a major hit, and was pretty widely panned by the critics, it did make money and I checked and saw that you can get the DVD.

I think it was intended to be a modern day It's a Wonderful Life, showing Steenburgen how "wonderful" her life really was, but it went over the deep end. and somehow I think Disney (who sells a lot of the crap given as Christmas presents) had a hand in putting for the message that the presents are and important part of the holiday, even if you are hurting financially (and this was the 80s when we just began climbing out of the recession and a lot of people were hurting).

I recommend it to see how someone can be well intentioned and still make a horrible movie.

Action movies?  Of course.
Rom-coms/chick flicks?  In some circumstances.
I'll even work with the odd horror/slasher/cult film.
But a fruit flick?  You've got to be kidding me.
