Name That Movie!
PLEASE... Name That Movie!
All this Christmas shit is really putting me in the mood.

Re: Name That Movie!
A little more dialogue since I think this could be one not a lot of people have seen:
A: Can you keep a secret?
Kid: Yeah.
A: Well, uh. I'm an angel. A Christmas angel.
Kid: Oh, no you're not. Because my dad told me you can't see angels. They're invisible.
A: Well, they're invisible sometimes, but sometimes they have to show up.
And keep in mind, this is from a guy dressed in dirty clothes and looking like Chester the Child Molester; and the kid goes with him and keeps their little "secret". Good job Disney.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Name That Movie!
Sadly, no.
If no one gets it by noon I'll pass my turn to the first person who says they want it (because I am only going to be online intermittently for the next 2-3 days) and I'll identify this film.
But a couple of more clues:
The movie starred Mary Steenburgen, Harry Dean Stanton, Arthur Hill, and Sarah Polley, among others. The cast was pretty solid.
It was directed by Phillip Borsos (who directed the critically acclaimed movie The Gray Fox), who also collaborated on the writing. So ditto for the direction/writing.
While it was not a major hit, and was pretty widely panned by the critics, it did make money and I checked and saw that you can get the DVD.
I think it was intended to be a modern day It's a Wonderful Life, showing Steenburgen how "wonderful" her life really was, but it went over the deep end. and somehow I think Disney (who sells a lot of the crap given as Christmas presents) had a hand in putting for the message that the presents are and important part of the holiday, even if you are hurting financially (and this was the 80s when we just began climbing out of the recession and a lot of people were hurting).

Re: Name That Movie!
OK, seeing as no one has gotten it and there are no more guesses, this is the movie:

I recommend it to see how someone can be well intentioned and still make a horrible movie.
I hereby give my turn to the first person who claims it.

Hare's a quote from a Christmas themed movie from 1947.

Since I gave away one of the character's name, this should not be too difficult.[to Marlowe] I want to be your girl, that's what I want for Christmas.
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I've been a fan of Mary Steenburgen since her performance in Time After Time...The movie starred Mary Steenburgen...
More recently, I thought she was fantastic as the cold, calculating, villainess Katherine Hale in the final season of Justified...
(A very impressive demonstration of her dramatic reach as an actress from the good-hearted, well meaning characters she has generally played...)

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

AND BICYCLE BILL, HAS IT!
your turn
Another thing interesting about the film is its extensive use of POV shots.

Character A: (referring to what 'B' called him earlier to maintain his cover) "Second rate punk," huh?
Character B: All I could think of on the spur of the moment.
Character A: Thanks, that makes it even worse.
Character B: (smiles) Sorry.

You ought to see the Golden Gate.
What's that?
You're kidding.
How'd you decide to come here?
Stick a pin in a map or something?

Mary still does it for me. Ted Danson was so lucky with the rebound.

Another quote/clue:

-"BB"-
Character A: Nobody leaves here until I come back. Jock, save me some coffee.
Character B: It'll be cold by then.
Character A: They say that's an advantage. You can't taste cold coffee.

Seriously, Joe..... Me quoting a gay movie?Joe Guy wrote:Sounds like dialogue from a gay movie...
Comedies? Sure.
Action movies? Of course.
Rom-coms/chick flicks? In some circumstances.
I'll even work with the odd horror/slasher/cult film.
But a fruit flick? You've got to be kidding me.
Sooo.... take that as a "no". You too, Ray.

I know this one, (it's one of my all-time favorites) if nobody gets it today, I'll take it tomorrow...
